Handgun is a lot more safe to use because you can keep your distance with your target.
Katana, however, is a melee weapon which is very risky.

Unfortunately, handgun requires an ammo so you have replace your ammo often.

I might as well go with katana, but I never touched a real weapon in real life so I may lack experience to use it.
