Thoughts on the word "edgy"
I hate it because it seems to have been "adapted" to the people who uses it arguement and it's the stupidest thing ever.
If it's different to what people think it's edgy but if it's not then it's mainstream and terrible. There's no winning.

I thought it meant witty or sharp and right at the "edge" of getting banned. Not sure if this is the correct definition.

Just a sad "insult" that immature people in high school use.

"edgy" means to be tense, nervous, or irritable.

The act of being "edgy" is basically immature teenage kids that think they're cool and mature. They try too hard, becoming tense and irritable with it. Taking coolness to its extreme and generally beyond the realm of actual possibility, while at the same time seemingly unaware of how ridiculous it is.

They try to do things to the very extreme like joke about terrorism, suicide, rape and terminal illness such as cancer, etc. To be tense, just to get attention as people react.

Just stop trying so hard to be cool and popular. It ends up with negative attention, but you still crave that attention. So it's a learning curve, some people just sit upon longer than others.

I get the need for darker media, but there has to be a balance. You can't take something like Archie Comics and just make it a sad, brooding, bitter experience. Well, I guess if you're the CW, you can, but it won't work. You have to find a balance. You can definitely have moments of hopelessness, fear, darkness in a story, but it 1) needs to fit the themes of the work, and 2) needs to be balanced or countered with something else. Fallout is about the end of the world, but it isn't 100% grim, even in the incredibly desaturated Fallout 3. The main theme of the games is rebuilding society, from Unity wanting to mutate humanity to fit the outside world in 1, to the NCR wanting to rebuild the American government without realizing why it failed in 2, to the ideas of coming together to make the world a better, more hopeful place in 3, 4, and a bit of NV. The games are also packed with references to post-apocalyptic media and ironic old music, so never once does it all feel solemn. Ditto with the original Batman (comics, first movie, the Animated Series). His parents died, he lives alone, and has to literally beat the mentally ill within an inch of their life to get them from harming the city, but he still took the time to listen to the people he fought, he wanted to help, but was not afraid to take them on when they started endangering lives. It is a very grim series as a whole, but makes sure to punctuate each episode and story arc with weird moments, comedy, the Joker holding a hasty funeral for Bruce and immediately leaving to pick up Chinese food, etc. You need to strike a balance, above all else, otherwise you alienate potential fans.

Thing is some use it to insult others and don't even know what the hell it means and just throw it around hoping to get a reaction from someone because they have nothing better to do with their lives.

True, still annoying.
However it seems to be the stereotypical "popular" kids use edgy more.
Like ffs according to these guys wearing a mask is edgy...

I like wearing the mask but can be uncomfortable.
Also I was on about the guy calling me edgy for wearing a madk, sorry for not phrasing clearly.
