Translation for Japanese (possibly) text
I have this 'scroll' that has some Japanese text on it (we think it's Japanese anyway), and I can't find a way to translate it. If anyone can tell me what it says or at least direct me to somewhere where I can find out I would be very happy :3 Thanks in advance

I tried that and it doesn't recognise the text, unfortunately.

I recognize some of the words but I cannot decipher the entire phrase when placed together.

You might want to ask another OT regular named "Danksama", his Japanese is way better than mine.

Thanks, I might have a look.

Hoo boy. It's really stylized and traditional if it is Japanese, I don't recognize all the kanji there (especially that bottom one). I'm a lot better at more modern, ordinarily written Japanese.

陸 (riku): Land
花 (hana): Flower

Those definitely seem to fit the context of the image, do you think you could find what the others mean?

As someone fluent in Chinese, the words seem to be:

陸治畫花 (last word unidentifiable)

Which, to my knowledge would mean "land treatment/rule drawing/painting flower" in Chinese.
That certainly seems more like it. It more likely is Chinese than Japanese.

Thanks for finding this stuff out, but is it Japanese text or Chinese text?

As far as what the words say, it makes sense. It is a painting/drawing with flowers on it!

It could be either, but I am leaning towards Japanese as the last word does not look Chinese at all. It is much too cursive and simplistic (Chinese words are like Japanese kanji, but Japanese words can have hiragana).

I'm not familiar in the slightest with either languages, but there is also some text on the image (see the link) which may help work it out.

Based on the subject of the painting (which is sakura or cherry blossoms), it definitely seems more likely to be Japanese, too.

I was thinking the same thing when I saw it - it also resembles the style of Japanese art I've seen before.

Yeah it probably is Japanese, judging from the image itself. I am just ♥♥♥♥ at reading traditionally written Japanese, and at least one of the kanji used on that scroll thing is pretty antiquated

Thanks for the help on working out what this said! I've been trying to find who made it, or where it came from (it was inherited). It seems to be a limited edition print, but I can't find from who or what it originates from.

If I were to guess, it would be a re print of early to late sengoku period artwork.
