Repression is subduing something or someone by force. In the case of a connection between it and depression, it could also be the subduing of a certain thought or feeling.
Depression is a feeling of sadness and despondency.

Repression - The act of forcing/subduing something or someone.

- The kid's mother died in a horrible car crash, but he repressed it (blocking it out of his mind).

Depression - The act of dwelling upon negative topics, without knowing or looking for solutions.

- The kid was depressed from dwelling about his mother's death in a car crash.
