cartoon is non connected story like different episodes of looney tunes bugs bunny vs elmer fudd hunting, bugs bunny against a medieval knight. Storys dont follow a pattern.

Anime - theres usually 12 episodes to a season with a climax episode where the story arc gets solved

Well, anime are cartoons,except from Japan, unless you live in Japan, where anime simply means cartoons (all). The reason they are seperated is because of the differance in artstyle, but also the story and obviously the language. (if it isn't dubbed, or in otherwords redone with English voice actors).

The target demographic seems to be teenagers. Cartoons from Western countries however, seem to be for kids, except for sitcoms.
