The most delicious fruitcake
This is what I got for my birthday. It's the most delicious fruitcake in the world, and if you've never had fruitcake from Assumption Abbey, you've never had fruitcake.

Was 1 hour 30 minute drive to Gennesee Abbey and the Trappist monks thankfully sell products from other abbey locations. It was completely worth it. I even got one of the monks talking. I guess they are normally pretty close to silent, according to my dad.

I'm struggling with a dilemma now. Do I eat the entire fruitcake now, or do I eat it piece by piece over several days? I'm leaning towards piece by piece, but it's hard to restrain myself from the deliciousness waiting for me in the fridge. Augh! I want to eat the rest of it so bad.

This fruitcake is so famous and delicious it even comes with it's own story inside the tin:

About the Fruitcakes

When Assumption Abbey was first developing its bakery, the monks sought the help of world class chef Jean-Pierre Auge, who at one time served in the royal employ of the Duke and Duchess of Windsor. Mr. Auge's assistance, and his generosity in providing the recipe and ideas for production, gave the monks the impetus to go forward with the Assumption Abbey Fruitcakes.

Assumption Abbey Fruitcakes are the dark, rich traditional style of fruitcake. They are baked slowely and aged under the careful supervision of the monks. Everything, from marinating the fruit, to mixing, to baking, to packaging, to aging, to mailing is done right at the monastery by the Monks and associates.

Assumption Abbey is not a commercial enterprise. It is a way of life, and that way of life, combined with the careful work of the bakers, insures a dedication to high quality that makes Assumption Abbey Fruitcakes among this country's finest.

-------

I know. You probably have a hard time believing fruitcake could even taste passable, let alone delicious. Believe me. This fruitcake is delicious. So delicious it's one wish I had for my birthday.

I remember the first time I had it, it was Christmas last year. My mom brings us all a piece of fruitcake, and I'm looking at it like, "is this even edible?" because everyone knows fruitcakes are horrid things that are like the gifts you give to people you don't like, but are expected to give a gift to for some reason. So I tentatively eat a little, and then the heavens opened up and my tongue entered a state of Nirvana. I had to have another one.

It's no wonder no one else can make a decent fruitcake. This is what it takes. The life-long dedication of a group of monks who only do two things: studying the word of God and making fruitcakes. Nothing less can make it taste nearly as good.

Also I'm about to be trolled horribly, but you know what? I have the most delicious fruitcake and you don't. So I win.

Eat it all at once.
You have to remember, a fruitcake that good will be usurped by ravenous friends and family members.

Pouring rum on it as it ages.
I have a fruit cake in my fridge that's been in there for about 6 years. They never go bad they are like twinkies they are still good 25 years later.

It is a shame that bakers that are craftsmen, genius of their trade are out produced by the thousands of packaged garbage that you buy in the supermarket.

When you taste real food, properly and skillfully made, you realize the junk you usually stuff in your mouth.

The shipping rates for the cake would be high (most fruitcakes can break your toe if dropped on your foot.)
