Couldn't the possible intoxication come from the insecticides?
I don't think think broccoli on it's own is toxic...

Doubt it's insecticides, I bet it's more because the uncooked broccoli have a lot of copper salts, nitrates and cadmium just like the white cabbage's cob.
Not that I'm all against vegetables, I myself eat carrots and white cabbage almost on daily basis (as long as I don't run out of them), but never it's cob and I smelt broccoli once, it smell awful, almost like dead body, even though it was looking fresh.
By the dog. He loved the stuff. Always cooked, sometimes with some cheese sauce.
Because of that i actually thought it was disgusting for a long time, but now i love the stuff as long as it's not boiled.
