Well, yeah.Cant get much strategy going in a " peaceful unarmed farmers vs one of the larger militaries in the world " scenario.
Yeah. I searched for "Vietnam RTS games" just to prove this hypothesis. This war was not about great strategic campaigns, but painful battles where terrain was gain just to be lost again. The legacy is mostly about the soldiers' personal experiences. This is why there is a lot of FPS games (some good ones), but almost no Vietnam RTS. The only WW2-like terrain advance in terms of large armies moving was by the NVA, after the US withdraw, where they gradually took provinces until the Fall of Saigon.
I could list at least fifty Vietnam games but I'll only mention my favorites i.e. Line of Sight Vietnam, Men of Valor, Shellshock: Nam '67 & Shellshock 2: Blood Trails, Battlefield Vietnam, Vietnam '65, Platoon (RTS), Vietnam: Black Ops, Vietnam 2: Special Assignement, Vietnam: HoChi Minh Trail, Conflict: Vietnam, , Wings over Vietnam, Tunnel Rats: 1968 ,Elite Warriors: Vietnam, Search & Rescue: Vietnam Med Evac, Vietcong 1 & 2, as well as loads more e.g. Rising Storm 2: Vietnam, ArmA 3: S.O.G. Pararie Fire, a Mod for Operation Flashpoind based aroud the Vietnam War, Eve of Destruction: Redux Vietnam (as well as the Battlefield EOD mods for B1942, BFV and BF2, Green Berets, Gunboat, The , RAMBO, Hell in Vietnam, Lost Patrol, Marine Heavy Gunner: Vietnam, M.I.A. Missing in Action, NAM, Squad Battles: Dien Bien Phu, Thud Ridge: American Aces In 'Nam, Air Conflicts: Vietnam as well as others too numerous to mention.
Yup! Though no one really answered the guys original question fully. So, even though it may be considered Necro posting, I still think it deserved a decent answer.
Since it was posted, Valve have added several older Vietnam games such as Line of Sight: Vietnam, Men of Valor, Elite Warriors: Vietnam and Vietnam '65.
Battlefield Vietnam was pretty great back in the day.
