The Bleach "Meme"
Why is it always "Drink Bleach"? I feel that that was invented and carried on by 13 year olds. Heres why:

Bleach, is really terrible at being a poison. It takes more to kill you than you could reasonably drink, as drinking it would be rather painful. It would burn the living crap out of everything it touched, internally. Also, it takes a large-ish amount to do things like drop your blood pressure dangeroulsy low. (http://sciencing.com/toxicity-household-bleach-21461.html) So, it takes inhuman determination to drink a toxic amount, especialy for an adult.

And, there are plenty of equal-or-more toxic easily obtainable things you could consume; some of which are easy to consume, like toothpaste, antifreeze, Ibuprofen, Asprin, Acetaminophen, etc.

(Seriously, Acetaminophen [Tylenol] overdose is probably one of the most painful ways to die, from what I hear. It effectively turns your liver to a puddle of goo, which hurts so bad that you want to die. Dont play with medicine, kids.)

Or, you could get fancy. Instead of bleach, why not Sodium Hydroxide (Lye), Potassium Hydroxide (Potash Lye, used as a pool shock), Propylene Glycol (antifreeze, again)...

...And probably the most easily available, yet most toxic thing I can think of: inhale Benzene gas. (used sometimes as a paint thinner)

Anyway, the whole bleach thing is very stupid, especially because it tells people to harm themselves. But also because it is very evedent that it was made up by some fool who has no understanding of Toxicology. What do yall think?

do you also have a deep understanding of quantum physics?
... You pick the one topic to annoy me. Yes, I do have a very sound grasp of quantum mathematics, quantum theory, as well s a more than well rounded grasp of biology, chemistry, metallurgy, and life sciences.

Do you have a point past "They are a nerd"
makes sense, thx for confirming

Hurrah!

I am finally a nerd in the eyes of my peers.

I think it's so stupid that it's beneath my notice. Kids just do it to sound tough and "edgy" - I wouldn't waste your time trying to understand them OP.
Oh I dont. Thats why I wrote this [post], as it [the bleach thing] doesnt make sense. I want to call it out [the bleach thing] and call it what it is: stupid.

Yeah, but by calling it out just to point out how stupid it is you're wasting your time.

Isnt that what off topic is for? I have 4 days to write a massive essay for college, but here I am. By commenting on this thread, you are wasting your time too, bear in mind.

Many people dont know that it is stupid, including, but not limited to, the people who say it. So, I want to explain its stupidity. And there you have it. Go drink some pure water. :)
The "Drink Bleach" meme came from a young girl who was coerced into posting a picture of herself flashing her breasts onto the internet. People started spamming the image on various websites, and doxing her, which resulted in her being harassed via phone etc.

She tried to kill herself by drinking bleach, which resulted in people making fun of the fact that a young girl tried to kill herself by spreading the "lawl! Amanda Todd Drink teh Bleach" meme.

https://www.google.com.au/search?9&tbm=isch&q=amanda+todd+meme

Eventually she did end up killing herself, and people kept spreading the meme because dead children who killed themselves is hilarious!!! XD

You're missing the point. The original guy said not to waste your time trying to understand the "Bleach" kids. You said you understood and were thus trying to explain to them why it's stupid. They don't care if the bleach thing makes sense so you're literally wasting time trying to explain it to them.

That's a very interesting analysis, but as I'm sure everyone's already pointed out, you're overthinking this.

Popular slang, sayings and idioms are, well, popular. And popular knowledge uses small reference pools. We say that of a person devoid of emotion or empathy that they are "cold as stone" or "cold as ice", but you'd leave most people puzzled if you described them as "cold as Bose-Einstein condensate". Similarly, telling someone to ingest polonium-210 doesn't get your point across like bleach, a far less potent poison, would.

tl;dr, it's meant to be easily understood. Not to be scientifically accurate.

Delightful. After it was explained, you try to drop afterword science.

Points go to fluff.

Yeah, Im poking fun at it. Everyone (but the ones who say it) knows it is stupid, but I just expained it and pointed out JUST HOW stupid it is.

Um, well, Polonium-210 gets the point across to me MUCH better than bleach (I better understand it), for the reasons mentioned above in the OP.

Even better: Sarin (nerve gas), Hydrogen Chloride, Strychnine, Ricin, Cadmium, Hexevalent Chromium, Uranium*, etc..

Drink bleach = just stupid
Ingest Ricin = Serious threat/insult.

*Uranium is not only radioactive, but extremely toxic. Just touching a piece of refined or depleted Uranium long enough can give you a seziure and destroy your kidneys. The toxicity is scarier than the radioactivity, to me.
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2819790/
But Plutonium is not toxic; you can eat all you like, as long as you dont get too much radiation... unless you want to get too much.
