Okay, I have to call BS on this one (Persona 5 spoilers)
So I'm watching someone play Persona 5 on Youtube.
One day (in the game) he's in class and his teacher asks him:

"With the advent of the color TV,
something else started appearing
in color. Do you know what it is?"

You get four answers to choose from:

Movies
Pencils
Underwear
Dreams

The guy picks movies, and it's wrong.
The teacher says the following.

"The correct answer is dreams.
Before, people's dreams were in black and white.
But research shows that once color
broadcasts became the norm, most
dreams started being in color.
What's fascinating is that
people see the world in color,
regardless of TV's existence.
It's strange that our dreams
had been in black and white
until TV's inception."

That's BS. It's like one of those cartoons I saw growing up, where they thought old people were in black and white, or that they only could see colors in shades of black and white.

I know it's a game but really?

What if it's a metaphor?
As cryptic as japanese games are, you're probably right.

... for crappy writting.
it's real, at least according to a quick google search that I did.

What about people who have never even seen a TV? Did they suddenly, magically start dreaming in color, or do they still dream in black and white?
the dreams i enter were always in color.

No TV at all = Color dreams
Black and white TV = Black and white dreams
Color TV = Color dreams

That's how I understood it based on my 5 minutes of research.

Sounds like urban legend type BS to me. Impossible to dis/prove, since all the people before the color to B+W transition are long dead, and most anyone left from the B+W to color trasition are too old to remember properly.

Actually this isn't an urban legend. However what they didn't explain is how come people were seeing dreams in black and white. It was between 1915 to the 1950's while film was in black and white that people dreamed in black and white. Before this period of time people dreamed in color same as afterwards. It's believed that television created the influence for people to dream in black and white and people over the ages around 60 may still dream in black and white if they grew up influenced by black and white tv.

You necroed a 2017 thread.

*calls necro police*
Necro of the year.
Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy?!
I'm not on quite often but if there's something of interest to write I'll definitely reply especially if it archives in google for the next person interested in seeing. If it bothers you the more joy also. I really enjoy people getting annoyed stupidly with smart things. It could remain an open thread for as long as possible especially since the topic is as old as the color tv not just Persona 5 and found through google on the first page. This is actually quite true about black and white dreams. People didn't see their dreams in color when the monochrome television era was around. It's not the only colorization we changed our ability to perceive either. People in ancient times only saw or represented colors in black white red and yellow and have been equally seen that way in many cultures from ancient Greece to how the Indigenous peoples and Chinese directions represented colors. It's believed by psychologist that they're the first 4 colors newborns see. The idea of dark and light in colors is really what was what people identified with color. Off topic but It's not the only thing we kind of evolved from either that we modernly identify to easily. Even concept of numbers have changed. There was no such thing as 0 in ancient Greece.

Thank you for reviving this thread. I found it on page 1 of a Google search and thought it was more helpful than anything else I saw on the page. You are truly a G-d among men.
