Canned salmon looks disgusting.
It occured to me the other day that salmon was a great alternative to tuna. I normally make tuna salad or sandwiches and decided to buy some canned salmon the other day. And it looked horrible, there was what seemed to be bones(not sure something that looked like bone but was elastic??), skin and the smell was horrible too. Anyone else can relate to this? :x

Maybe it was pet food? Heh, well i never saw canned salmon yet. But that doesn't sound right..
It does look a little fishy (hehehe) but it tastes way better than it looks. But yeah, you gotta watch out for them tiny bones. Same thing happens with canned crab meat. Sometimes they get a little shell in there.

How do you normally eat it? Do you take the skin and bones out?

They are bones but will break up as you eat them, take them out and you can clearly see they are bones from the fish. Personally I hate tinned salmon, tinned tuna however is beautiful, love it :)
I might try tinned salmon again then.
Cannot relate more on the tuna! I love it. Works with everything, tastes good and has a lot of protein.

I just grab a fork and dig in! And I usually work the bones out while I'm eating and just spit them out.

Well it seems like people enjoy it, so i'll probably force myself and give it a go. Might not be as bad as it seemed to me ^^
They're better when they are canned with something other than oil or water. I like the mustard sauce, or the tomato one.

Salmon is great as salted fillet slices or baked in the oven, not from the can.

Yeah, i love salmon fillets but they're pretty expensive and the can variant seems like a good deal to me, its cheap and high in protein.

It's about 30g of protein per can (160g), that's a huge amount for such a small can.

If you ever buy fresh fish always cook it in milk, never water, it stinks the house out but milk is fine.
Yeah the 30g of protein per can is insane, one of the reasons i love it.
Thanks for the input. I never actually cooked something with milk before, it sounds interesting so i'll probably try it.

Cooking in milk is great for fish, especially any yellow fish, just be aware of the temperature, milk will burn so cook it nice and slow on a low heat, add a small amount of butter to the top of the fish once it's on your plate and the fish melts in your mouth :steamhappy:
Very nice! I am gonna have to give cooking it with milk a try sometime myself then. Thanks for that!
