Free photo editing software

Hi,
I'm quite interested in photography but haven't made the jump to doing anything on a PC except view my pics- does anyone recommend any free software to get me started?

Gimp is fantastic. Has almost all the features Photoshop got and its 100% free. It also has plugins that lets you do anything you can imagine.

checkout a website which offers time-limited software giveaways and discounted softwares. if you are lucky, you can get photo editing software. site needs a valid email so use a secondary email address.

Stole the words out of my mouth. I use that instead of the copy of Digital Photo Professional 4 which came with my DSLR, since that doesn't seem to save any of my PNG or RAW files.

Gimp or paint.net, I could never really use GIMP for photo editing but it is referred to as"The poor mans photoshop" so that would be the best place to start imo.
