ati radeon 5850 drivers problem
so my problem is this: when I update my drivers I get these black borders around my screen and I cant fix it from catalyst control center :( I have looked up in google and it seems that I have to reinstall my win7 home premium 64bit to fix this. is there any other way to fix this or am I doomed to waste like 2 weeks of my gaming life to redownload everything with my crappy internet?

@OP It seen you use Driver 12.10 if i guess correct. If you don't update to 12.10 yet, do this.

1. Opening Catalyst Control Center then go to My Digital Flat-Panels.

2. Click Scaling Options (Digital Flat-Panel)

3. Drag it all way to overscan or 0%. It should fix black bordor.

NOTES: HDMI have known issued. If the problem is still there, switch it to DVI.

Sounds like your monitor just needs to be adjusted properly. This happens regularly when you install new drivers. Push some buttons on the monitor.

Other than that, you'll have to explain it with a tad more details. I'm also fairly certain you won't have to re-install Windows just to update a driver properly, that would be an epic waste of time.

It is not the monitor, it is the underscan. My guess is 1080p monitor.
If the below does not work, completely reinstall the drivers from the AMD WEBSITE. When I had this problem, Scaling Options under Digital Flat-Panel did not exist until the complete driver reinstall.
