32GB Kingston Non-ECC CL11 DIMM 1600MHz DDR3 RAM (4 x 8 GB.)

PNY CS900 1TB SSD

MSI GeForce RTX 2060 Super 12GB DDR6 VRAM (Yes, MSI made a few with 12 GB VRAM instead of the usual 8 GB.)

Noctua case and CPU cooler fans (OEM Dell fans were noisy and inefficient.)

Only the MOBO and case are original at this point.

Awesome rig for 1920 x 1080 @ 60 Hz w/VSYNC.

Original setup for this rig was an i5 processor, 8 GB RAM, and a really poor 500 GB SSD.
Added another 8 GB RAM and dropped in a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti (best card the stock 90W PSU would support.)
This was an experiment to create a "most bang for the buck" gaming PC, and the results were fantastic. Punched way above its weight class, even with the SSD being as slow as a really good HDD. For the 1920 x 1080 @ 60 Hz I game at, did an amazing job. I called it "The little system that could."
Finally decided I wanted an RTX card for the ray tracing etc. And of course BG3.

Anybody wants to replicate this, I do NOT recommend a Dell PC. Dell uses a ton of non-standard parts, proprietary connections, etc. There are adapters for everything if you search, and How-To vids on YouTube. But why deal with the hassle?

OTOH, right now you can pick up a refurbished Optiplex 9020 with the i7, 32 GB RAM and a 1TB SSD for $220 on Amaon. Add the PSU and GPU of your choice, save half or more vs. prebuilt gaming PC with the same specs.
Yeah, the Optiplex has all the visual appeal of a concrete block, but it's about performance and not appearance, right?

Pro Tip: If your case has a vacant full size drive bay, this is a primo spot to stash all the extra cables from your non-modular PSU.
