New gaming PC, games still lagging
We built a fully new gaming PC yesterday, it's said it can handle battlefield 3 on High settings, it's a fairly good daming rig. But when I started off playing minecraft yesterday, I still noticed a ton of lag spikes all over the place. The laptop could run faster than this. I tried another game and it was lagging like crazy. I need help.
Here is my specs. My graphics card is a "Geforce GTX 660 Twin Frozr" We have 2Gigs of RAM. Can someone help us?

You need a better CPU & more RAM.
You have pretty outdated PC with 4 Gb of DDR2 memory. 2 Gb graphics card uses half of that memory to run leaving too little free RAM for other processes.
You really need 8 Gb of RAM and 64-bit Windows 7 or 8 to run 2 Gb or bigger VRAM graphics cards properly.
I'm kinda confused, you said you built fully new PC but those specs are outdated tech from like 5-6 years ago.
You have a nice graphics card but that's it. Your problem is everything else about your PC, possibly including your PSU (power supply unit) which may not be able to properly power the new GPU (graphics processing unit) the way that it needs to be powered.

If it's your PSU, as it probably is, then buying a new one can fix the worst of your problems. Then you will not get drops as often but you will get nothing near optimum performance due to all your other outdated parts.

What is your PSU make, model and wattage please?

^ this

the pc is doing nothing but swapping between writing to memory and using the pagefile continuously since it doesn't have enough ram to start with.
your system is not a gaming system by todays standards, it's only good for playing games like pong from the 1980's
its the 16g page file thats slowing it down
lower the page file to around 4g, and cut down on background programs

He doesn't have 16gb page file he is saying it's about 4000MB = 4GB already with 1600MB used = 1.6GB.

he only has 2 gigs of memory that's the problem , size of the PF doesn't matter cause the PC is just swapping too much information between active RAM and the PF... this also causes a higher then needed CPU usage... so it's bottle necking everything in the system...

I'm pretty sure that CPU has been out of production for 4-5 years, making the "built yesterday" seem really bizarre. Take the GPU out of the mix, and my five year old laptop has better specs.
CPU and RAM is the issue.

That CPU cant provide enough frames to a GPU of that calibre.
The other problem is the 32bit OS which will hinder your ability for RAM over 4GB. Some games/systems in general have an issue when theres 4GB of RAM on a 32bit OS.

So as said a few times above, your CPU and RAM is the problem.

When it comes to Minecraft, that game tends to be memory hungry so that goes back to the 2GB of RAM.

Why did you go with a processor that's more than 6 years old?

I consider my E7500 really old.

The Intel G2120 entry level is a better than both and Amazon has it for a mere $67 USD.
