What causes "stutter" in games?
Hello everyone
I have been having this problem for a long time now but i have ignored it. When i play some games, especially FPS games, i get very good FPS but the screen stutters a lot. Even though i get 60+ fps i feel that i am playing on 24 fps because of the stuttering. These are some games that i have this problem with: Saints Row 4, Battlefield 3, Far cry 3, Left 4 dead 2, Black ops 2(When it was free temporarily i played it and it was a horrible experience) ect. I do not know at all what could be causing this problem. At first, i thought that it was that my graphics card because it was dusty. When i cleaned it, it actually removed like a little bit of the stutter. But, nonetheless, it was a VERY small percentage. Then i thought that it could be my antivirus or other programs. Here are my specs if it is needed:
GTX 560 Ti 2GB (900MHz)
i5 2500k
8GB of RAM

Help would be very much apreciatted. Thank you for taking your time reading this.

I forgot to say that some games stutter more than others. It's not always the same.

I would suggest it could exactly be your monitor that you have is broke or corrupted, in the past i had a problem with my computer not having your stuttering issue but with my own monitor having this blur effect on the screen. I thought it was my graphics card but two days later i went to a friends house with my computer for a lan party and he had a monitor. I plugged mine in and immediately i noticed the blur effect wasn't there so i realised of course my monitor was broke. I replaced the monitor 2 weeks later and it was gone! :)

It could be a hard drive read/write issue. I was getting tons of stutter and then one day my HD died. It's been fairly smooth after replacing it. Check temps, HD health (keep it defragmented), drivers, graphics settings and net connection. Many things may lead to stutter.

I also set my pre-rendered frames on 1 (goes from 1-4) which smoothes out gameplay.

Also turn off as many background programs/processes you can before playing a game. There have been many times a game would suddenly stutter & lag like crazy & I'd find the antivirus started a scan.

How do i keep my HD defragmented?

For me I fixed screen stuttering not too long ago by tweaking my advanced power settings in power plan and settings the minimum processor state to about 40% and maximum processor state to 98-99%
