how to dismantle a microsoft sidewinder x8 mouse
the little plastic feet under the mouse just clip off..(if they are worn check the puck-like charger and find 2 sets of replacxements)..there is a small teck screw under each foot...remove these..I had to modify a tiny optical flat screwdriver for this..gently pry the top cover off starting from the charging port..then slide out the small ribbon cable connecting the top with the base..take a photo before doing this so you know which way the cable plugs back in..the base can now be cleaned using a q tip and isopropyl alcohol..the top can be further dismantled by removing the 3 philips screws holding the buttons in place..gently pry the buttons off and clean... gently dry the whole mouse with canned air before rebuilding it.. to rebuild just do the reverse..

I had to do this to deal with scroll wheel and side button issues which affected the accuracy of the mouse in both games and normal work ...after cleaning and drying the mouse it was as good as new

Ooh, thanks for the tips there. I'm currently using an X8, but I'm assuming that the info you provided here will work with the X5 too. I need to get that sucker out and fix the left mouse button.
