Or you could try to get some $40-50 more to your budget and get i5-4570, then you would not need to upgrade later.
If you have the mobo, why are you asking about using an AMD CPU? What motherboard do you even have?
what do you think?
Sapphire AMD 7850 1GB
EVGA Hydron ITX chassis
8GB 1600mhz
Intel core i3 4130 3.4ghz
500 watt 80+ Gold rated PSU
Eh looking at it now that actually does sound pretty damn good not the best but pretty good for a lan PC to start with. Wish i had enough cash for a Asus GTX 670 mini and the i7 4770k then id really be kicking ass.
Well i have 2 actually, one that a freind gave me that has an fm2 socket since he was retarded and bought the wrong board, and the one I bought which has a LGA 1150... just can't decide which really to put in my PC really depends on the processor. Sounds like i3 is my best bet though. As for the fm2 probably throw it in for a server build or something.
The Athlon will have better multi-threaded performance but weaker single threaded performance compared to the i3. Considering you already have a board for both, you might be better off saving money on the Athlon, but that's up to you. Either will be fine
It looks damn impressive actually, can even fit a Titan!

I3-4130

As you can see their passmark scores are very similar.
Personally I'd get the A10 because it can later be overclocked if you get a good cooler. For mini-ITX I would recommend a 120mm radiator watercooler with 2 stacked fans in push-pull configuration. This takes heat directly out of the case which is bound to be pretty small and not a great place to vent heat into.
Here is one that is fairly silent:

You can also underclock and undervolt it to make it use less power.
Also the A10 has much nicer integrated graphics which may be able to aid the CPU for some things even when using a separate GPU.
I also like the A10 because it's the top of it's line and makes me feel like they did their best.
I'm an AMD fan and I like the extra cores, somehow I think they might end up being more powerful and as it stands it is equal in the benchmarks.
In it's favor the i3 has lower TDP, almost 1/2 the TDP of the AMD.
if you want a lower profile silent cooler, cm n520 is around $30-40

It really does lol, probably the best looking mini ITX case i've seen yet. Besides the ibuypower revolt but they like every other big prebuilt franchise just wont ever sell their case without all the shenanigan hardware.
Actually http://www.cpu-world.com/Compare/142/AMD_Athlon_X4_750K_vs_Intel_Core_i3_i3-4130.html so theorectically since the i3 has better single thread performance wouldn't it be better for games? plus the much much lower tdp. The only thing is the 750k is cheaper, but the i3 offers much much better upgradability options. Hm, depending on what happens ill probably get both. But for now i think im going to do the safe bet and get the i3 4130 and the 760k for a future server build. thanks everyone :D
