Sennheiser PC 363d help

Hi can anyone help with a couple of questions about my PC 363d headset?

I'm a little confused why I'm able to change the settings from 2CH to 4CH, 5.1 and 7.1 from the windows icon, when the headset ISN'T set to Dolby mode (using the ext soundcard).

As far as I understand it, when Dolby isn't on, the headset should be standard stereo, but it does make a big quality difference changing these settings in games and movies (not music though).

Also, I've only tried these with Max Payne 3 so far. On non-dolby it sounds great, but when I engage Dolby the sound goes quite 'muddy'. not nearly as crisp.

can anyone advise?

Take the dolby dongle away and plug headset directly to your soundcard.

don't have a soundcard in my PC - that's one reason i went for this headset!

I also have this awsome headset, have you tried turning full-range speakers on. I don't know if that will improve it or not. I emailed Sennheiser asking them about that option, they told me to turn it on with a smiley face.
