Is a GTX 650 Ti too powerful for my CPU?
Was told that the best match for my CPU would be an HD 7700, but I decided to go grab a GTX 650TI 1GB DDR5 instead when I go out this week. My question is, is it too powerful for my cpu?

CPU: Intel Core i5 650 @ 3.2Ghz
Mboard: Intel DH55PJ
PSU: 580w

The reason why I'm getting that graphics card is that I'm planning to buy a whole new PC set in 6 months. Probably an i5 2500K or AMD A10-5800.
And then I'll put the GTX 650ti into that PC.

But for the moment on my current PC with the i5 650, I want to play GTA IV and Assassin's Creed 3, Battlefield 3 On Ultra.
Far Cry 3, Battlefield 4, Arma 3, Assassin's Creed 4, and just in case... GTA V on Med to High.
Will that graphics card work well with my CPU to play those games in the mean time till I get my new PC?

Also I can't buy online and the store here only sells these versions:
Asus GTX 650TI 1024MB 128bit DDR5 (PH)
Palit Daytona GTX 650TI 1024MB 128bit DDR5 OC Edition

Which is better and quieter? :)
Thanks guys :)

If it is more powerful than your CPU can handle, then your system will simply be CPU limited. Most CPUs are more than powerful enough to make the system GPU limited. I think you should go for it and you might see slightly fewer FPS than with a newer CPU but I think you'll only see a tiny difference.

Bear in mind that they're also using a much more powerful GPU.

With regard to your choice of future CPU upgrade, I believe you can get a newer ivybridge or haswell i5 for about the same money. Given that you are going to be using a pretty decent GPU, an AMD A10 doesn't realy stack up - it's an APU so it has very strong integrated graphics (nothing on a 650ti though) which would go unused anyway so look at an AMD FX-6100 or an Intel i5 instead.
Nah dont worry about limiting your cpu, specially if your going to get a new pc shortly.

Well out of those two cards get the one with the beafier cooler, its most likley going to have the higher base clocks too.

Alright thanks, and I checked it. Pretty interesting.
Hmm yes, actually I was thinking of getting the Haswell i5 but wasn't sure about the price though. I don't know anything about AMD computers, and the only store here has only the AMD APU's, no FX's as far as I know.

Thanks a lot for the feedback :D

I guess the Asus is the one I should go with then.
But pretty much what I'm asking is which is a better company?
Palit or Asus? In terms of performance, quality, life, sound, and warranty.
The GTX 650 Ti should not be too powerful. That CPU is even capable of running a GTX 660 Ti.

If you want to upgrade the CPU, you should get something newer, like an i5-4670k. You'll get more performance for the price. Also, you should look into getting a better GPU, such as a GTX 760. The GTX 650 Ti won't go very far in 2014/2015 games.

Never had anything from Palit but Asus has been around longer and they are one of the best you can get atm, whether its motherboards, soundcards or gpu's.

Edit: That said, if they are both referance cards. the only thing that will differentiate the two would be the cooler and the clock speeds.

I'll be getting the 760 in mid 2014 if no better deal comes out.
Right now I just need something that will carry my current PC and satisfy my gaming needs.
Also it must be less than $150. So I think the GTX 650 Ti would work well for at least a year on both sets of PCs. :D

Thanks for the CPU advice :)
@Rale if I'm not mistaken the Asus has 2 Custom Cooling Fans that are supposed to be better at cooling and quieter than the Palit. But I have no idea how true that is though.
So I guess I'll stick to getting the Asus one, unless anyone disagrees.
I'd actually go with saying " The GTX 650 ti is not powerful enough".

You should get a GTX 660, GTX 660ti, GTX 670, GTX 760, HD 7790 oc 1075mhz, HD 7850 oc, HD 7870, HD 7870 XT, HD 7950 or HD 7970 instead. They all have more GFLOPS.

The HD 7790 oc 1075mhz with dual fans are really great for the $. You can pick one up for about $110-$130 on Newegg.com or many other retailers in the USA. As good or better pice than the GTX 650 ti, better performance more comparable to a GTX 650 ti boost for now and more GFLOPS than that for next gen gaming.

GFLOPS which will be needed to keep up with the PlayStation 4 and be a fair margin better than the the Xbox One. Hopefully then you can be prepared to play all the next generation games from either one when they get PC ports.

When I buy a video card for an existing system that has a good CPU, I generally spend about $300 and I don't worry if there's a bottleneck. I do worry about the power supply being able to handle it though.
@Rove I can't order from Newegg, I'm not in the US right now.
But hmm... I was thinking of getting the 7790 OC, but someone told me to get the 650Ti instead. The only card that they have at the store I go to that is a 7790 is a standard XFX one, and a Sapphire Radeon HD7790 Dual-X OC Edition 1024MB 128bit DDR5. Is that better?

http://www.game-debate.com/gpu/index.php?gid=1733&gid2=1414&compare=radeon-hd-7790-sapphire-dual-x-oc-edition-vs-geforce-gtx-650-ti-palit-1gb-oc-edition

^ I used that to compare them.... yet I'm still confused on which I should get.
Also, the graphics card must be less than $150. I can't spare anything else till I pay for some things. Which means I need a strong card to last me 6-12 months and it seems that those are the best choices.
Which do you think is better in overall gaming performance?
The games I want to play are listed up above.

@RotNdude I can't shell out $300 for just a graphics card right now :P
I need to even out my money for a graphics card and for the games I want.
The GTX 650 Ti and 7790 have roughly the same performance, but the GTX 650 Ti gives you Nvidia-exclusive features, such as PhysX, TXAA, and the new HBAO+ introduced in Splinter Cell: Blacklist.

Yes but the HD 7790, will be better optimized for Battlefield 4 right?
How about AC4 and Far Cry 3? Do you know what it's optimized for?

lol nvidia features.. phys-x is a joke at this point. Their features are like buying a car for its cupholders..

FC3 nvidia wins, ac4 no idea its not out yet, same w/ bf4. with any game the drivers will mature over time making the card better for the game.. Dont count the nvidia "extras" into your decision.

The 7790 has a slight advantage over the 650 ti , but on newegg theyre giving 2-3 games free with it.
Edit- oh wait i just saw your post about not being able to use newegg, sorry. but i use a 7790 in a build it runs amazingly
