Is a GTX 650 Ti too powerful for my CPU?
Was told that the best match for my CPU would be an HD 7700, but I decided to go grab a GTX 650TI 1GB DDR5 instead when I go out this week. My question is, is it too powerful for my cpu?

CPU: Intel Core i5 650 @ 3.2Ghz
Mboard: Intel DH55PJ
PSU: 580w

The reason why I'm getting that graphics card is that I'm planning to buy a whole new PC set in 6 months. Probably an i5 2500K or AMD A10-5800.
And then I'll put the GTX 650ti into that PC.

But for the moment on my current PC with the i5 650, I want to play GTA IV and Assassin's Creed 3, Battlefield 3 On Ultra.
Far Cry 3, Battlefield 4, Arma 3, Assassin's Creed 4, and just in case... GTA V on Med to High.
Will that graphics card work well with my CPU to play those games in the mean time till I get my new PC?

Also I can't buy online and the store here only sells these versions:
Asus GTX 650TI 1024MB 128bit DDR5 (PH)
Palit Daytona GTX 650TI 1024MB 128bit DDR5 OC Edition

Which is better and quieter? :)
Thanks guys :)

I would get new CPU first since it is 4 tier behind. That is a lot than it should be. Need have 3 teir or lower as if you were doing hobby like benchmark or for maxed highest setting graphics video game like crysis 3. i5 2500k would be good choose and it work with Z77. Or 3570K/4670K is good too. I'm sure that's reason why it is not what you expect from old i5.

Good news is you can get i7 8XX for 100 dollar on ebay. This is not recommend CPU unless you can accept med to high setting graphics. As well as it is 4 gen old and saving money.

HD 7790 beats GTX 650 ti.

HD 7790 can equal GTX 650 ti boost on current gaming benchmarks and has higher technical stats more in line with PS4.

I'd definetly recommend a HD 7790 over a regular GTX 650 ti. I'd also probably say get it over a GTX 650 ti boost since really that is just a Nvidia overclocked GTX 650 ti and you can overclock a HD 7790 more than a GTX 650 ti boost because of that probably. Also HD 7790 has higher GFLOPS and lower price.

If you can afford a GTX 650 ti I hope you can afford a *HD 7790* because here they are about the same price. You probably can not afford a GTX 650 ti boost anyways though because they cost more thatn either GTX 650 ti or HD 7790.

I recommend get the Sapphire Radeon HD7790 Dual-X OC Edition 1024MB 128bit DDR5. Can you afford it? It's the best option.

Edited it cause I saw I had said GTX 650 ti instead of HD 7790 in one place by mistake.

Compare GTX 650 ti and GTX 650 ti boost are not grant you over 10 %. So it is not worth a shot.

I can afford the Sapphire HD7790 Dual-X OC 1GB DDR5, it's only about $140 here.
I don't plan to overclock the graphics card anytime soon.
Maybe after a year after pairing it with a better processor.
I'm just looking for the quietest and best gfx at playing games that comes with OC out of the box.

Edit: Also one question.... does the Sapphire HD7790 Dual-X OC 1GB DDR5 require only 1 6pin? To plug in the power supply.

650ti isn't a very powerful card to begin with so unless you have an old singlecore or old dual core, then no.

Core i5 650 is a dual core, so yeah... that's why I'd get it for my current build. For my next build I may just leave it on my old pc and get a GTX 760 for my new build

Only one 6 pin. Not only is it better than the GTX 650 ti it is also more power efficient. HD 7790 draws 85w or less, I could run one overclocked to 1200mhz with -20% power.

The HD 7790 and the HD 7990 are currently the two most power efficient cards in the world getting better than 20 GFLOPS per watt.

If I were in your shoes I'd buy the Sapphire HD7790 Dual-X OC 1GB DDR5 for $140~.

@Rove alright thanks bud for everything :D
I'll go grab the card next week and check how hot it gets, if it doesn't get too hot I guess I might as well overclock it :)
Btw, I saw you play Borderlands on your profile, have you tried Borderlands 2? Is it any good?
Rove 2013年8月22日 0時40分
nope and I cant't get online in Borderlands one and the stupid company won't fix it.

Ya, I hate them for that. They didn't pay their gamespy bills. Either that or they hate me.

Or maybe it's just some bug on our end o.o

I was looking at reviews of the HD7790, and they said that it gets pretty hot.
Does it get loud also?
And does it get too hot?
Rove 2013年8月22日 4時18分
No, even sharing a case with a HD6950 with both running 24/7 at 100% load with the HD 7790 on a 1200mhzoverclock it would not go over 75C. I have 3 big good case fans so that does make a difference.

While running alone at 1200mhz 100% load 24/7 operation temps would be between 60-70C.

AMD cards are known to get hot. I have been running an Nvidia GPU for the last several months and it never suffers from the heat problems that my previous AMD card had. Nvidia produces higher quality cards and I would recommend against the 7790. Get the GTX 650 Ti, especially an ASUS or EVGA brand.

amd cards are higher wattage than similar performing nvidia cards
