Gaming?
For a gaming-worthy GPU, then u will need to change to a higher output PSU so it meets the needs of a more powerful GPU.
What's your budget for this?
Like this PSU > http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817207013
Which should exceed the requirements of pretty much any GPU that is up around the $300 range or so.
Best bet is to first tell us...
How much u'r willing to spend.
What games u wish to play and/or see improvement on.
What is your display's native resolution?
Then we can find a good GPU that meets your needs, and a PSU that meets/exceeds the needs of both your budget, and what the GPU requires.
so im willing to spend around 200 to 250 dollars.
I wish to play battlefield 3, currently i have arma 2 and i run it with 30 fps on medium, 40 on low.
Well im buying a monitoer that is 1080p.
I hope all that was good answers lol.
What resolution & visual setting do you have set in BF3? Or u don't own it yet?
If not, then what res & settings in Arma2? So we get an idea of current performance and such, as resolution plays a major role in that.
$250 is not very much for a decent GPU considering approx $60 of that would need to go towards a PSU.
But if u intend to play games at 1080p, the GPU will need to be fairly decent (like GTX 660 or Radeon 7850) to run well at that res. If not willing to invest in it, then perhaps upgrade GPU without upgrading to a 1080p screen. As that higher res will only further lower game performance.
For example if I have a 1080p screen, that is a res of 1920x1080. This number is in pixel count (H x V). If I then apply 800x600, those pixels are being stretched to fit the 1920x1080 capacity. What happens is the 800x600 pixels will appear larger and also blurred, due to stretching. If you want an all around crisp picture, u want to run desktop and games at your screen's native res (max supported res).
What model of monitor do u have? That is easiest way to determine it's specs & max supported resolution.
Otherwise, both 660 and 7850 are good choices, while 660 being slightly more powerful than 7850 and 7870 being more powerful than 660, but you will need atleast a 500W PSU (600W recommended) for any of those card.
look on the rear of the screen for the Model #. Might also be printed on the front, in one of the corners of the screen bezel.
like L190 for example, which is a ThinkVision 19" LCD Monitor.
