PSU
How much power do you need for a gaming pc? I'm thinking about the Corsair 430 watt PSU but my friends say you need at least 500 watt. Anyone wanna help clear this up?

What parts are you using? In some cases 430 is enough however a quality 500-600 watt power supply is reccommended
Depends on how energy demanding your rig is. For any decent gaming pc you will want at least a 500W power supply or better.
Here's my current setup I'm thinking of buying:
Case: CM storm Enforcer
CPU: i3 3240
GPU: GTX 650 ti 1gb
Ram:Coarsair vengence 8gbs 1600mhz
HDD: Western digital blue 1tb
motherboard:MSI B75MA-P45
Lite on DVD drive.
and a few other things such as cpu coolers and fans.
What power supply would i need?

get the cx 650 or 500 trust me, rewiring is a pain especially if your using zip ties , so replacing a power supply can be annoying
but yeah get a 500 to be safe

kk, thanks.
650ti is a lower power card yet, only 110w
corsair cx430 can run a 150w gpu in most systems with 100-125w cpus
i3 3240 is 55w, so a bigger gpu could be possible

I'd like to suggest a AMD FX 6300 + HD 7790 GPU for you to swap into your build.

I think it would be cheaper and perform better. The CPU takes a little more power but the GPU takes less (being newer technology) and both are better than i3+GTX 650 ti.

If you get them you also need a new motherboard.

Also yes I would recommend minimum 500w PSU with 80 Plus Bronze certification.

If you want to run a huge video card, have room to run SLI or Crossfire, and overclock I'd go minimum of a nice 850w PSU Bronze or higher and a motherboard to match. Less than that and you'll be wishing you did and cost you more later down the road. Buy once, buy right. It's cheaper in the long haul that way. It takes a minimum of a 700w PSU to support the highend stuff and have some room (barely.) If you want it to last a few years and a few upgrades to come. It's the way to go.

Even Best Buy won't sell you less than 600w Corsaire for a real gaming machine. And that is the cheap way out cause they have no more than mid-range stuff in stock. The power supply should be able to last at least 2 major upgrades if you bought right the first time. And it only costs you a few more bucks to do it right. It's not much more money.

Just my 2 cents.

OC'ed any hardware will eat up more power than stated, so if you want to OC any hardware i suggest a 500W++ as i saw u don't SLI/crossfire and nvida 600 series GC have good power efficiency.
Yeah, but the 600 series Nvidia days are going bye-bye. The minimum I see with any growth is at least a 700W (very minimum and even then can only support a GTX 690 single max and can't support a 7990 or 7970 in crossfire) or 750W and for room to grow is 850W minimum.

You can survive a change in video card generation by buying one and adding another to get you buy to the next generation. And the most important thing to let you do that is 3 things. A good CPU, a good motherboard, and a good power supply.

For a while the GPU's became more power efficient and took less power. Now they are getting so large for a while they are going to require a little more power. Rigthfully so. The transistor count is going to go through the roof x a bunch. The Titan is just a start.

Look in your manuel it tell you what power supply to get and then add a 100 watts to that and you will have your anwsore.
