that is ofcourse if the MB can handle the 125 watt CPU.
http://www.overclock.net/t/946407/amd-motherboards-vrm-info-database
That's my board, also is the 8350 the best AMD one possible? If so then I'd probably go for that.
if its for gaming or not alot of heavily threaded programs, the 6core (6300) will do for about half the price
you can always get a 212evo and overclock the 6300 if needed
its a 95w cpu and will have alot of headroom in that board (8+2 can do 140+w without any problems)
Wait till you can get a processor with at least 2-3 times better performance before you upgrade.
What is the problem that makes you want to upgrade? Have you monitored system performance to see your CPU, RAM and GPU use and see which is getting used the most?
If you are wanting higher performance in games then you probably need a new GPU (graphics card) and not a new CPU. The AMD FX 6100 will not bottleneck a HD 7950 or 7970 and if you have one of those you should be laughing at least in terms of gaming.
If you are doing professional work and have noticed the CPU running maximum all the time and taking longer than you want then maybe you do need the upgrade or maybe you should switch to GPU accelerated software.
Games barely even use my AMD FX 8150.
If you are set on a CPU upgrade for whatever reason then I recommend waiting till 3rd gen FX or even 4th gen FX if it will fit the socket, but it may not because DDR4. Still wait to at least see if 3rd gen does because 2nd gen will only get cheaper meanwhile.
EDIT:
After re-reading your post and seeing system specs I can see that your system should be pretty good right now and I might be thinking about upgrades next year if it was mine.

8350 is the best overclocked 4.5ghz.
6100 to 6300 some what of a sideways upgrade.
Therer is a 6350 but why not overclock the crap out of the 6100, sell the 6850 then put that $75 with the $180 that you're not going to spend on an 8350 then take $255 and get a better vid card.
Option 2 , overclock the crap out of the 6100, buy another used 6850 $75ish or 6870 $85ish and xfire them.

Well the thing is the 6100 isn't even close to the level of an i5 or something like that. I've heard that even the phenom II x4 is better! I just haven't been in the loop for a while and have extra money so I was curious about upgrade potential. I just recently got my video card last year and it serves me well, but I'm fairly confident that the CPU is whats holding my comp back.
By the way thanks for all of the suggestions and help guys, I really appreciate it! :D
DDR4 RAM!
When DDR4 RAM comes out replace motherboard, CPU and RAM all at once but you need to save more cash to afford that I bet so get saving and do not upgrade yet.
Just like many previous generations of their top CPUs. Misunderstood at release and later celebrated as ahead of their time once they were getting old.
if its a new build with a budget over $600 get an i3 or i5 build
since you already have a am3+ board capable of 140+w cpus
get the cheaper of the two cpus
the speeds are not far off about 200mhz
6100 = 3.3/3.9
6300 = 3.5/4.1
newegg has the 6300 for $110 shipped

if you want to do a new boad/cpu and are near a microcenter

i5 4670k + msi z87-410 = $265+tax
To answer some of the questions.
Yes the 6100 isn't close to the i5 on gaming front.
Yes a x4 965BE is better in the gaming ring with exception BF3 multi player you'r better off with the 6100.
I understand you just got the 6850 last year but it is not much better than a gtx280 oc'd (I own them both).
When I xfired the 6850 games play fantastic, crysis 2 was like night and day from1 6850 to 2 6850s. Xfire has a bit of a learning curve but the pay off is great.
Long and short your 6850 is holding you back much more than the cpu.
I didn't even realize this was possible lol. I have heard so many bad reviews for the FX series that I thought for sure it was my CPU holding me back.
Overclocking ^^^.

Might be a xfire problem on am3+ bulldozer gen 4100/6100/8150, could have been old drivers but there was a problem fyi.
I'm on 790x/ Pll x4 965be so no problem for me.
