Intel i7 3770k vs Intel i7 4770k
Hello,

I am looking on buying a new gaming rig soon and have been having some trouble picking out which cpu i should use for it. My choices are:

Intel® Core™ i7-3770K Processor ( Ivybridge )
(8M Cache, up to 3.90 GHz)

Or the

Intel® Core™ i7-4770K Processor (Haswell)
(8M Cache, up to 3.90 GHz)

I am looking for the cpu that will offer me better performance (mainly playing games) and have read some mix reviews on the haswell socket cpu's so thats why i'm asking here. I will be getting the Nvidia GTX 770 Gpu with the computer

Any advice is appreciated :D

They will offer virtually the same thing. The 4770k is only like 0.02% better which is not noticable.

Haswell is simply at its early stages. Its not just a new chip, its a new design. New arcitecture. Intel will most likely be expanding any further chip sets with this new model or simply have it as another line of models.
Since they are practically the same price go for the 4770K 5-10% performance increase over 3770K . The negative reviews are mostly the 4770K running hot with extreme overclocking, you can still get a good solid overclock on them no problem.

Though for most games now days it actually won't make a bit of difference, everything is soo gpu based, and the 770 you are going for is certainly good. :D:
I'd go for the i7-4770K from those two choices.

However I'd also advise to buy AMD FX 8350 and get a HD 7970 Ghz Edition ($400-450) or HD 7950 crossfire (about $500-600) for the same or less in total price.
for gaming, get an i5 instead
hot many games use ht

ivy overclocks better, but haswell has better performance at stock

3570k /w z77 board , or 4670 /w b85 board will be within about $20 from an amd fx8350 setup
and do much better in games that use around 4 cores

If you got the money, get the i7-4770K! You will get constant high power for all games, not like amd cpus!
You should wait for the Ivy Bridge-E 4820k to be released in about two months from now. That CPU with its 10 MB L3 cache and an X79 motherboard that will support up to 4-way SLI will exceed the 4770k in performance and overclockability by a considerable margin. You'll need a large PSU, though, hence the 130w TDP. But if you need a new PC now and want to overclock, then get the 3770k since it runs cooler than the 4770k.
Haswell isn't realy a good choice for now.
Wait for the E version thanks to a X79 motherboard. ;)
Don't get an i7 if you're just going to game, go i5. Also I'd choose Haswell because then you get to use the latest boards.
Thank you all for the replies :D: Helped out alot
Only reason not to buy i7 haswell is to save money. If you can afford i7 haswell, get it. Even if games don´t make use of HT.

Eventually more newer next-generation games will be multithreaded. Crysis 3 is a perfect example of this. Get an i7 now and you will never regret it.
I'd go for the Haswell. That way your motherboard will also be good for future upgrading to the Broadwell. I'm a fan of going i7 for gaming.

Thanks, I think i will go for the Haswell! Just for that (little) extra performance gain and for "future Proofing."
Be sure to get a good CPU cooler with that, such as the Corsair H100i.
Haswell > Ivy
Ivy is on a dead socket. With Haswell, you could upgrade to Broadwell which could potentially have 6 core i7s/i5s
