ddr on a gpu is exactly the same as gddr
and either gpu will work in that board
either 7870 can handle bf3 fine (on high but not ultra at 2560x1440)
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/radeon-hd-7870-review-benchmark,3148-6.html
the sapphire has boost which will oc some when its cooler
and a 7970 can play metro last light at higher settings (may need to turn down aa/af some depending on your res)
Heres the thing, most 7870s will run games just fine at 1080p. But the 7870 XT or 7870 myst edition from powercolor are not regular 7870s. They are using the chips from the 7900 series just further cut down. They perform quite a bit better than regular 7870s but are just under the 7950 in terms of performance.
So if its between those two cards id definnitly take the saphire card.
I upgraded my secondary PC just a while back with one. I replaced my rather old 3870x2 and the 7870xt is a really good card for the money they cost.
It also clocks very well if you are into that.
It actually beats the GTX580 i have in my main gaming rig, but as soon as my brother saw that he bought a Titan and i got his old GTX580 for SLI in my main PC :)
I highly recommend the Sapphire 7870XT
