And its not noisy at all at the 2200. I'm just seriously wondering why its not getting loud and going up to 3500 anymore like it used to... and also because the CPU temperature is going into the red zone.
I am thinking it is a power thing because this all started happening when I plugged my monitor into my motherboard onboard graphics. The entire video used to get power from 2 6 pin connectors from the power supply whereas now the video comes from the mother board. The fan is plugged into a four pin connector on the motherboard... I could go ahead and plug it into the power supply? I have plenty of 4 pin sockets hanging around in there unused? Any advice on this? I'm just afraid if its not plugged into the mother board it won't get detected at all etc ? I'll try it out and put it back if it doesn't work
I was all set to connect the fan directly to the power supply but it seems they are both 'female'. The pins on the mainboard are 4 'male' pins that the CPU fan connector fits onto. Is there someway to go about connecting the two four pin 'female' connectors? I'm going back to check it out now anything you can tell me Muppet would be highly appreciated. I'll be back in a bit.
Im not sure if the 4 pins that are sticking up on the motherboard that the fan connects to are 12 volt. Its not the standard 4

thats a pwm fan plug and pwm fan connector on the right
wpm allows for the board to control the speed of the fan, and report back the fans speed
if its in the 3pin connector like on the left, then the fan will always be at full speed and report back its speed
That helps quite a bit.. right now yes its plugged into the one on the right.. I am not seeing a 3 pin one near there.. I do see one some distance away on the mainboard.
No it was only getting hot when I was playing a game.. as it was using the CPU for the video as well since there is no video card in ther now.
EDIT: The only 3 pin on the board is far away and it is apparenlty for a 'front fan' which I don't have. Will it cause major problems if I can plug in the CPU fan into that? I"m not worried about alerts etc and can figure all that out, I just want the fan to run at full throttle if I can get it to.
I should say that its not really a problem right now.. its not overheating or anything and I ran a bunch of tests and it was fine with no problems. So maybe I'll just wait till I put the new vid card back in and see what happens.
