Gigabyte GA-H55M-UD2H with a Intel Core i5-3470 3.20GHz
I have rubbish CPU, I have a good GPU. My CPU is a bottleneck, so I need a new one, will this motherboard fit this CPU? (I am also open to people saying: "This is a better CPU etc" Thanks everybody)

Your CPU is fine, it is more than enough for any modern game and will be for some time.
It's not a rubbish CPU.
Your CPU is pretty good. No need to upgrade to anything else, not even a Core i7.
Oh wait are we reading it wrong?

You want to buy that CPU and you want to know if it fits that motherboard?

You're not saying the i5 3470 is rubbish?

If so then no that motherboard is a socket 1156 motherboard while the i5 3470 is a socket 1155 CPU.
No no no, my CPU is a i5 661, which is a dual core, and the CPU in question is the one I'm thinking of buying :P

Does that mean I need a new motherboard? Could you suggest some?

There are two options: upgrade to an i7-860 or upgrade to z77 / i5-3470. The first option is cheaper, but the second option is better. Or perhaps you can get a z87 / i5-4670K combo.
How much are they? I wouldn't mind getting a new motherboard to fit the new i5, but I thought an i7 was better O.o

New i5s may end up being better than old i7s.
So how much would a new motherboard cost?

If going the z87 / i5-4670k route: $400
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.1326050

If going the i7-860 route: $220

I'm running an i7-950 CPU (same generation as the 860) and it runs pretty well with a GTX 660 graphics card. Battlefield 3 runs at 55-60 fps nearly maxed out and Skyrim (no mods) runs at 60 fps on ultra.

I suggest PC Part Picker[ca.pcpartpicker.com] to find your own board and CPU, haswell takes socket 1150 I think and others will not fit.

Personally I'd go with AMD rather than Intel and get a 6 or 8 core for cheaper, specially since DDR4 is coming pretty soon (standard in less than 2 years likely) and you might want to upgrade again sometime then if you can.

Here is my recommendation:

Motherboard $120~:
ASRock 990FX Extreme3 AM3+ AMD 990FX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard with UEFI BIOS
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157281

CPU(s) $160:
AMD FX-8320 Vishera 3.5GHz (4.0GHz Turbo) Socket AM3+ 125W Eight-Core Desktop Processor FD8320FRHKBOX
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819113285

This CPU scores better on Passmark's public CPUbenchmark than the Intel i5-3570K (Ivy Bridge) and i5-4670K (Haswell):
http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_lookup.php?cpu=AMD+FX-8320+Eight-Core&id=1782

And it's significantly cheaper. So for about $280 total that's what you get instead of Intel for about $330-360 from Intel with a similarly $120 priced motherboard and a $210-240 i5 CPU.

So that's what I'd do for myself. If you want a Intel ask someone else or go look on that first parts website I mentioned.

You need a Z77 Motherboard.

H55 is 1156 socket, That CPU is for an 1155 Socket. so no it wont work.
Is there another option to a £400 motherboard?

It comes with the CPU as well, not just the motherboard.
Oooohhhhhh Lol, I thought it was £400! Or $
