What should be my next graphics card?
Okay well i bought my computer recently, planning on bumbping it up in specs as i need to, got paid and figured why not start now? so I have NVIDIA GeForce GT 610 graphics card now and it sucks. Whats a good ( fairly priced) graphics card that will give me a good gaming experience and wont run my bank account dry?

a psu thats too weak can kill an entire system

a quality 600w psu can run any single gpu in most systems
Ignore ANYONE who pretends to know what they're talking about by only considering the PSU output Wattage.

To understand if a PSU is sufficient, you need to consider the Ampage across the volt rail sections. Typically GPU on PCI (PCI-e etc.) will run on the 12V +5 and require a steady flow of anywhere between 12A (basic low-end GPU adapter PCI cards) to 80A for top-end GPU

Regardless of the total Wattage, if the PSU is incapable of delivering its power in a steady flow to EVERY component, you risk damage to all the hardware in your system.

quality power supplies, will have 3.3v and 5v around 20-30a, <1a for -12v and around 5a for 5vsb
the rest should be for the 12v rail/s

300w is an average for a high end system without a gpu
and most gpus are under 300w

you can always look up reviews on a power supply to find out how bad the ripple/noise is on the unit
ex. this diablotek 1050w psu cant even do half its power safely, its an overrated 500w psu
http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php?name=NDReviews&op=Story&reid=187

thats why i said quality, something with active pfc, and 80+ rated filters out most junk psus
some are falsely labeled, or have the protections disabled or misconfigured
best to look up revies on them before buying one or stressing a psu beyond 75%
I would suggest the AMD radeon hd 7950. It's 300USD but it can max out ANY GAME!

If you are going to lie about what your GPU can do you are not helping the OP who wants actual legitimate advice.

well i like the amd radeon hd 7770 1 gb gddr5 its great on bf3 far cry 3 on both ultra settings its good for this gen of games but idk if it would woirk say nxt gen like cod ghosts bf4 ect.

You don't run either game on Ultra settings.

http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/graphics/2012/02/15/amd-radeon-hd-7770-1gb-review/4

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/far-cry-3-performance-benchmark,3379-5.html

Why do people BS about the performance of their systems when you have actual benchmarks, facts, and common sense that can counter your point. You don't have a magic 7770 handed to you by Jesus that can run at the levels of a $400-$500 card.

You don't even have enough VRAM on that 7770 to run BF3 on ultra since it would be wanting 1.5 Gigs of it.

Even if you were to remove the AA from both games you would not be anywhere near a playable framerate on a 7770, ultra settings.

Here is the 7770 @ only a mere 1280x1024 resolution FC3 ultra settings.

http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/far_cry_3_graphics_performance_review_benchmark,5.html

Doesn't even break 30 frames. So if OP took your advice and bought this card he/she would not be getting the performance you claim the card has.

@terrornova

If your price range is 150 my advice to you is to deal with your current card until 2014. You'll have more money by then and can get a nice mid range 2014 card which will run games such as Watch Dogs, BF4, etc. fine.

Well I wouldn't mind going a tad higher. How much would you say is a good card that could run BF4? I am working and just got paid today(totally forgot today was pay day, pleasant surprise nonetheless) so my budget can go up.

@ TenClub, thank you for saying that, you may have jut stopped me from making a huge mistake :) I would love to wait but sadly my graphics card I so bad that according to game-debate I can't even run Rising Storm which I was really looking forward to.

Would anyone say that my CPU is at least decent? It runs fine on all the games I play but only struggle when I get into an area with high foliage or water which gets a tad laggy but nothing that reducing the graphics doesn't fix
atm you should wait for the Nvidia GTX 760ti, or if you cannot wait than purchase the Nvidia GTX 770. These cards will do for a 1080HD display. If you have a 1600 display then you will need a NVidia GTX 780 or higher. A Amd 7970 Ghz edition will be good as well if you can pick one up cheap, but better to stay with the new Nvidia 700 series cards as they are the latest. Hopes that helps you

The thing is we can't tell you exactly how BF4 will run at what settings.

In terms of visuals the game does look like a significant upgrade over BF3. But we don't know anything about the optimization, etc. All I know is they used two 7990's to run the game at the press conference. Obviously that's so they can use a very high resolution + AA with all the bells and whistles on. You also have to remembe that the game isn't fully optimized yet.

If you can wait for at least a couple of months for the 760 I suggest you do it just to see what the performance gain is like over current mid range cards and by how much the current ones will drop.

But I understand as to why you can't wait. Must be a pain to play games with that 610 and as you said many won't even run well if at all with that card. So here are my suggestions.

This is all before tax:

Under $200: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130826

$250: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131484

$310: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161420

^ The last two come with 4 recently released and highly rated games: Crysis 3, Tomb Raider, Bioshock Infinite, and Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon.

So if you can afford it go for the latter two.

All 3 of those cards will guarantee you nice visuals in BF4. I can't tell you what settings but the game will look nice so you don't have to worry about that. My guess is that the 7870 Tahiti and 7950 Boost will make the game look as good as the next gen console version.

PS: Your CPU is decent don't worry about it. Your issue is the GPU.

I could definitely get the 250$ and maybe I'll wait I get the 309$.plus I'm getting I think it said 109$ worth of games which is awesome. Dosent seem like a bad deal at all. And yes I can hardly run Day Z or ARMA 2 on medium settings. Which gets tiresome at times. Is game-debate a trust worthy site or is it wrong? I've had a friend say that half the time it screwed him over. Thanks for all the suggestions by the way everybody, I really do appreciate the time to help a newbie out! And one last thing, could I expect the 250$ or 309$ to go down anytime soon or they relatively good GPUs and probably won't have a decrease?
It's definitely a great deal. Those are 4 very good games and all recently released.

Sites like game-debate just look at what the developer has written down as the minimum and recommended specs then compares it to your own PC. So honestly it might be overrating it since developers minimum specs are mostly (you can run the game and play it at a ♥♥♥♥ framerate. Enjoy) There is no way a 610 will run ARMA 2 on medium settings while maintaining a smooth framerate all the way through (IE: When the action gets heavy).

Every card will lose its value and those are no different. If Nvidia's upcoming mid range line up is a threat to those cards then yes AMD will decrease the price.

The difference between the two isn't significant so if you just go for the $250 card you will still be getting a nice card. If you do have the money though spend the extra $50.

Thanks for your helpfulness I think I'm getting the 309$ one. Your help has been greatly appreciated!
Shoot, last question. How will I know if my power supply is sufficient?
terrornova eredeti hozzászólása:
Shoot, last question. How will I know if my power supply is sufficient?

All graphics cards manufacturers recommend a minimum wattage PSU for their cards. Of course it does vary from PSU manufacturer to another, but in general the graphics cards manufacturers will recommend a wattage that will take that in to account. Just check the back of your PSU, or open the case of the PC and check the side, and it will give you a wattage. If that's the same or higher than the one the graphics card manufacturer recommends you are pretty safe.
whats the brand and model of the power supply
does it have a 110/230v switch (if it does, it does not have active pfc) and should get a new one reguardless of its labeled wattage

if your getting a $300 gpu, dont risk it with a poor power supply
How do I find what the power supply is?
