GPU temperature and computer case
With summer coming I've been watching my graphics card temperature and noticed that it's been geting some pretty high on games, about 85C getting as high 92C on most games (Trine, Scibblenauts). So I was wondering if best way of dealing with heat is to get case with better airlfow.

This is case;
IN WIN Griffin ATX Mid tower

And this is my card;
Evga Nvidia GeForce GT 610

Any ideas or help would be appreciated.

First of all, have you installed all fans 220mm and rear 92mm?. Second, I would recommend two or three intake front fans, but as far as I have seen descriptions on the internet about your case, it doesn't support them or a bigger exhaust rear fan. And finally, you need to clean your pc up, even the GPU fan, dust gets stuck on it.

I got case second hand so I don't think I have the 92 mm fan that came with, but there is a 90mm fan in the rear pushing air out (I noticed the fan was installed incorrectly when I got it).

The 220mm is installed correctly, but I don't think it does a good job at cooling (I notice about 1-3 degrees change I think).

And yes I've cleaned the computer with compessed air last week making sure to all the heat really good.

id recomend a new case
find one with top vents, and bottom mount power supply
those run alot cooler, no place for hot air to get trapped inside the case

this is nice for about $37 shipped
Sentey Eagle Extreme Division Tower Case - 1 x 120mm Fan Cooler / HD Audio / 2 x USB 2.0 / Removable Aluminum HDD-SSD Tray / Screwless
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811322068

and a better gpu
610 is an extremely low end card
gtx 650 is alot better for around $100

MSI N650-MD1GD5/OC GeForce GTX 650 1GB $114 shipped, $10rebate

I totally agrr with this fellow user, I would also reccomend Cooler master 912 (really cheap, and military style looks awesome). I get 30 celcius on my ovearll CPU. And 650 seems the best option nowdays, looks like it dropped the price so hardcore. I'm using a 630 and play Sints rown on high and Starcraft most setting on ultra.

It seems like you are expecting a new case to dramatically lower your temps .. It wont. If your GPU is overheating, buy a can of air and blast it clean of dust. It'll do you more good than a case and cost you a whole lot less.

However if you are like me and you upgrade your case every 5-6 years, I'd recommend the CM Storm Trooper/Stryker. It's got room for every possible setup you'd want now and in the future, but it will not lower your temps as dramatically as you think it will.

I've just cleaned it out last week with compressed air, so it's not dust that is the problem right now.

And it's not really problem with overheating, since it hasn't really. It's more of me wondering if the best way dealing with the summer heat is to buy a case with better air flow, since my current case dose not seem be doing a very good job at it.

Something I should of mentioned, is that I don't have the money for a $100 case, or the room for a full tower case. So I'm looking for a good mid tower that at most cost $70.

I'm aware that this isn't really a gaming GPU, but I can't really afford to upgrade right now.

Thanks for all your anwsers so far.

How is your psu? If your power supply is old or produces too little power then it will heat up drastically while trying to produce the necessary power.

There are several power supply wattage calculators online. I recommend checking one of them out.

My PSU is a 350 watt, isn't that old. I'll take a look at one these calculators.

Your temperatures are meaningless without giving us the ambient temperature.

Also, that is a terrible case for airflow.

Good GPU's can handle the temps themselves without help of the case cooling.

thats like saying anyone can survive with a plastic bag over their head
gpus can overheat if there is no air circulation around them

They can. It exists? Been there done that. That is why they have amazing cooling features. They do work! A good GPU and CPU can support themselves if correct (which manufactures do) keep themselves cool. Why would a manufacture send a product out that would self destruct? They don't for warranty reasons. I have 10+ fans in my PC and the only ones that actually do something is the ones in the GPU and on the CPU and on the power supply. They are self regulated and if clean work.
