Motherboard and Ivy CPU Help.
Hello.

I'm helping my friend build his First computer, I my self have build one. I am not that experience

in computers (yet). When I Finish my computer I thought it was pretty awsome that I did by my

self (and the help from the wise) that was two years ago, today I am more knowledgeable, as I

look back, I could have done so much more like getting a better deals on prices and geting

better parts, the CPU that I'm useing is a Core 2 quad 3.00Ghz yorkfield. I have never come

across Ivy and sandy Bridge CPU before intill now. The Motherboard my friend has pick is a

"GA-Z77-DS3H LGA 1155 Z77 ATX Intel Motherboard"

This motherboard supports Core i7,i5,i3.

My friend has pick a "Core i5 3570K 3.4GHz LGA 1155 Processor"

This CPU is a Ivy Bridge, and I not too sure if this motherboard can support it or not. The

Motherboard SPECS dose not say what kind of CPU it needs Ivy or Sandy, Just says i5.

so can you guys help me? What i5 CPU can I use on this motherboard.

yep the mobo supports ivy because of the pci-e 3.0 slot and also its a z77 board.personally id research both items before buying them...i7 3770k has hyperthreading...i5 3570k does not...some games use hyperthreading and more threads mean better performance overall with everything you do on a computer.

Battlefield 3, Dirt 3, and Crysis 3 use all cores / threads available. If going high-end, it's best to invest in the Core i7 3770K processor since more games will eventually use more than four cores / threads.
metro 2033,black ops ,just cause 2,left 4 dead 2...many more.

hyperthreading is not multithreading, all multicores have multithreading, games do not utilize hyperthreading, actually the ones that hyperthread have more issues than the ones that dont

Z68 = For SandyBridge (supports IvyBridge on limited products)

Z77 = For IvyBridge(supports SandyBridge)

so you dont have to worry about it.

Yes, the i5 3570K is fine for gaming, and is compatible with that (or any "Z77") motherboard. Only go with the i7 3770K if you'll also be using the computer for video editing or other content creation. Put the difference (which is about $100) towards a better video card (most important for gaming), more memory (second most important), or an SSD (third most important).
