Need help overclocking i5-3570K with an MSI mobo
Hi everyone, I built my new rig yesterday and I have an overclocking question. I'm running an i5-3570K with an MSI Z77A-G41 mobo. When I go into BIOS to adjust the CPU multiplier, there is no value greater than 38 (3.8GHZ) availalbe. I was hoping to go to at least 4.0GHz. Any ideas?

if it is a k series cpu the multipliers should be unlocked

run cpuz and verify its a 3570k

also what cpu cooler do you have?
if its the stock cooler dont overclock it

It's definitely a K CPU. It's 3.4 at stock and I can OC to 3.8, but it won't let me select a multiplier any higher than that. I'm using a Hyper 212 plus with two fans in push/pull.

you need to use +/- to adjust the cpu ratio
i wouldnt go much beyond 4ghz on that board without vrm cooling, its a msi 4+2 phase, not good for much over 100w

My issue isn't the same as his. I CAN click on everything. When I click on CPU multiplier a list is brought up, with the highest value being 38. Sigh.
Need to figure out how to turn that off now I suppose
Here's what I'm seeing (see the picture I linked to). I'm in standard mode, no OC Genie, and 38 is the highest CPU multiplier option I'm being given.

No you are not in standard mode. You are still letting OC Genie take control of your settings.
Ok well how do I change that?

Turn the computer off. Press the OC GENIE button (it will stay 'in'). Turn on the computer. It really is that simple. You can watch they 'do' that in the video as well.

The '+' and '-' buttons are referred to as "direct OC". They will actually adjust your base clock while your computer is running.

probably be alot easier to read your manuel.

My mobo doesn't have the button. And I did read the manuAl.
in bios have you tried the standard mode instead of oc genie II mode?
I clicked standard mode, yes. A poster above you said I was still in OC Genie mode though, for some reason.
under my experience with an Asrock mobo, it took 1.35v to get 4.6 Ghz stable on my i7 3770k. Your milage may vary, as that was done on an Mini-ITX motherboard.
