Laptop problems.
First, my specs. Lenovo Thinkpad Edge E530, Intel Core i7 3612QM @ 2,1 GHz, 8GB Ram and HD4000 + GeForce GT 630M. I have F-Secure.

Problem 1. I have a laptop with a 1600x900 resolution. I also have a HD Ready Samsung TV, but when I connect my laptop to my TV with an HDMI, I can't get the resolution correct. Windows recommends 1280x720 for the TV, but when I set it to that, and make my tv my main display, I can only see about half of the task bar. Any ideas why?

Problem 2. My laptop has had many performance drops recently. I was playing Borderlands 2 Co-op with a friend, and for a long time, I had no problems with the game. I could run it at med-high graphics and full resolution. Then after one loading screen, it started lagging. Now I can barely play at 800x600. Also on Black Ops ll multiplayer, after entering a laggy server, my performance took a HUGE hit. I played at full res and low graphics before that and got 75fps, now I can barely get 30fps at 720p. This also affected Saints Row 3.

If anyone could help me in any way, I would be eternally grateful. These aren't even all the problems with my laptop.

OK it sounds like you having throttling issues (system slows down when under load due to overheat)

This is normaly due to dust/fluff blocking the cooling fins for the CPU or GPU

It may also be down to the laptop being full with little space on the HDD

you need to check available space on the HDD, that you have no spyware/virus type stuff - use a online service as any onboard has not picked it up (assuning you have/use any onboard)

Failing that its time for a google on haw to clear out the dust bunnies on the lappy

The TV issue is linked to the TV not supporting the resolution correctly or the requirement for a suitable cable for the TV

Again google is your friend :)

Lots to do.......................

Thanks! I'll try to clear possible dust when I get some spare time. Also it seems that tv might be 1366x768, but when I set that resolution from my pc, it says "mode not supported"
Daddio 19 stycznia 2013 o 7:37
If its not supported by your video card look in the Nvidia control panel for a resolution supported by both devices - good luck

Make sure its being controlled by the nVidia GPU and not the Intel Integrated.

Lookup your TV and you'll find out what resolutions it can use.

And thats correct, your laptop has a 1366x768 resolution.

FIRST Of all, theres no need to be rude.

Second of all, its the OP that said he has a GT630 on the laptop so thats why we mentioned the GT630, so before you complain about the advice we give try actually reading the OP's original post, thanks.

While you may be correct that it doesnt use an nVidia GPU, you dont have to be so rude about it now do you?

Oh and for the record, Laptops CAN have more than one GPU, while that may not be the case here it is possible. so follow your own advice and get your facts str8, thanks :)

And telling him to lookup the model of his TV isnt bad advice either :)

Yes, my laptop has two GPUs. One is integrated (HD 4000) and one is dedicated (GT 630M). My laptops resolution is 1600x900 and my tvs resolution is 1366x768. My TV is quite old and I can't find the model anywhere.

Well are you sure? cuz i looked up the customizations for that laptop and they dont offer an nvidia GPU..

can you post your DXDiag specs?
Jykä 19 stycznia 2013 o 10:42
Yes, I do have a Nvidia GPU. Why would I have Nvidia Control Panel pre-installed and games like Skyrim use it.

kks..

looks like someone owes us an apology then.

The model number of your TV should be somewhere on a label. If the TV is saying a resolution is unsupported or you're not getting the proper image on the screen, then it's either the TV not scaling properly or your input on the TV not set properly. Find the model number of the TV.

Regarding the other issue with frame rate, do what somebody else said and dust out the laptop first.
Jykä 19 stycznia 2013 o 11:16
Ok, I found the model. It's Samsung LE-32R71B.

1366 x 768 is the TVs native resolution.
Jykä 19 stycznia 2013 o 12:19
Yeah, that's why I am wondering that when I set the Tv:s resolution to 1366x768 through my laptop, my TV says "Mode not supported"
rotNdude 19 stycznia 2013 o 12:52
You have to look at each input for the TV. Just because the TV supports a certain resolution doesn't mean it supports it on every port.
