Basically I want a system that will play the newest games on or near max settings.

sure
you interested in selling your rig for 1k?
it will be alot faster than your laptop
cpu speed is about 1.5x faster
ssd will cut boot time in half
7200rpm desktop drive is about twice as fast as notebook drives
and a 660 is alot better than the notebooks 630

mine ? lol no wouldent sell mine for 3k
At that price, you deserve to have a GTX 680 in that system. Heck, even HP has better deals than that, depending on the model.
so will these parts make me the best pc possible?
my notebook is a samsung

basically am I going to notice a big over my notebook if I upgrade?

how much it cost yp upgrade a video card on a laptop?
You can't upgrade a laptops video chipset it's integrated into the mobo well i guess you can but it's troublesome to the point it's so costly and unnecessary that buying another laptop/desktop video card is a better choice.

this is your best option...build it...if you run into problems there are many pc builders here to help.you can access this thru your laptop while you build it...its easy...have faith in yourself.you ll be glad you did

this isnt silky smooth on max settings...this would be low to medium and tweek the video card and pc to get it to render higher

Most laptops have an onboard graphics chip so it's not as simple as "unpluging it" it requires some soldering skills to be able to remove/replace, and although not impossible it is very troublesome. Some of the newer laptops may have an actual card in there somewhere but i haven't dealt or had a customer bring in one of those for replacement yet.
I don't chose sides i'm not a fanboy i buy what will be right for me and give me the best performance/$ that's why i spend hours looking at charts and testing products that are sometimes sent to me as well as help others build PC's i'm not here to argue i'm here to try and help someone with whatever their question is. As for me being part of the "geek Squad" no i bought one laptop from bestbuy when i was not very tech savi and all they care about is selling their products not helping their customers not to mention they are overpriced phew!
