which is a better value amd 7970 ghz or 680
im am trying to find out wich one of these cardsis going to be the most future proof and offer the most benifits [amd vs invidia] along the lines of that, would the extra gig of memory in the 7970 ghz help further down the road? (five years or so).

7970 ghz due to more memory bandwith and more effeicency in higher resolutions

Look up some benchmarks before you make a decision, dont let one person sway you.

Both are great cards and 2GB or 3GB wont matter if you dont use a high resolution monitor or more than one monitor. 2GB is perfectly acceptable.

I have the GTX680 and if you was to get one you would be happy im sure it's a powerfull card, but if you talk value for money then the HD7970 is the winner.

No such thing as "future proof" really.

Maybe but in 5 years it will be one weak GPU you will probably get a $100 GPU that blows it away, i cant wait for a GTX780 as there are games out now that are too much for the GXT680 when maxed out and with the new XBox and PS around the corner new more demanding engines will be coming left right and center, i here the new Source engine is well in progress also, i wont be happy unless it bring's a GTX680/780 to it's knees, so i think 5 years is a long time for a GPU to last.

i have a evga 680 superclocked ftw 4gb card...best card i ever bought...plays everything maxed out in ultra settings in 1080p. the card running@ full load and fan on card at 85 percent barely reaches 30c which is unheard of on air cooling.plus nvidia has the ageia physics chip built into card where ati has nothing but buy a dedicated card for that...huh...what...nvidia rocks and you get what you pay for

longevity wise, i would say dish out for a 680 4gb, plenty of games allready push 2gb of memory on 1 monitor on ultra with aa, in 2-3 years games will be pushing 3-4gb easy with aa and high textures.. the 6804gb will probly last 4-6 years depending if they drop a suprise new directx version on us with new hardware types.. so value to performance with years of use in mind, the 6804gb or a 6704gb is deffinatly the winner..

lmao...of course they will drop another direct x on us...its the only way to make them more money and have us upgrade yet again
