Blue Screen?
Hello,
I am building my first gaming PC. I got the parts, and have put the computer together. It works great.
It's only when I got to download Windows XP as my operating system that I get this blue screen. It says:

"A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

If this is the first time youve seen this stop error screen restart your computer. If this screen appears again follow these steps:

Check for viruses on your computer. Remove any newly installed hard drives or hard drive controllers. Check your hard drive to make sure it is properly configured and terminated. Run CHKDSK/F to check for hard drive corruption and then restart your computer.

Technical information:
*** STOP: 0X0000007B (0XF7CB263C, 0XC0000034, 0X00000000, 0X00000000)"

I have absolutely no idea how to fix this. I've looked online, but can't see to find a solution that I understand. If this helps, this is my build:

Thank you!

Hi,

I've seen your specs, but I'm a lil bit butthurt about your mainboard. any chance investing 30$/50$ more on your mainboard? your GPU/CPU and DDR need a little more support.

Because you have new hardware, I'm afraid your mainboard is at fault here. You can still try to remove one of the two DDR slicks and try to boot up with one of each just to rule out the memory problem.

Mainboard meaning motherboard? Could the problem be that the OS is 32 bit when I need a 64 bit? If I need to, I could get Windows 7.
I'm confused on what you mean by "try to remove one of the two DDR slicks and try to boot up with one of each just to rule out the memory problem."

that's a classical BSOD for Windows XP if it doesn't have AHCI drivers. Install system in IDE (not recommended) or inject AHCI drivers before installation of Windows XP (by pressing F6 before setup or use modified image of WinXP).

How would I test my RAM if I cannot get online?
What do you mean by "inject AHCI drivers?"

you should get windows 7 64bit. 32bit operating systems will only show and use 3 gig of the 8gig of ram you bought, also windows xp support is just about done from microsoft and you will like windows 7

I plan to get Windows 7. I just already had Windows XP at home that I could use, so I planned to buy the update version of Windows 7 at a later time.

EDIT: And I also don't want to spend a lot of money on Windows 7 if my PC won't work in the first place. I would need to fix that first. (Unless getting Win7 would fix the "blue screen")

Do yourself a favor and install Win 7 64bit. You can install without a key and get 30 test days which you can extend to over 120 afaik.

edit: Using 7 will "fix" your BSOD because it has built-in AHCI drivers ;)

this is good advice.

Alright, well I'm pretty much convinced about getting Windows 7. And this WILL fix my problem? (Or you think, at least, it's very likely?)

What operating system did you buy?
glarby person 4 ENE 2013 a las 18:31
I'm about to purchase Windows 7. As of now, I do no have an operating system downloaded. I just put the PC together yesterday.

good choice, make sure it's 64bit so you can use all that nice memory you bought.

I bought the 64 bit OEM on Newegg. :D

cool. thats the ones i buy as you can install it in the same system as many times as you want without having too buy another key down the road, but only on the same system, allthough if you change a motherboard you can call microsoft and they will give you a new key for free and delete your original key that was on your board you had too replace if it went bad so i think the key is linked too your motherboards bios or chipset not sure, but i had too replace my board once and my key would not work so i called them and they fixed it for me in 2 minutes for free.
