80° GPU temps while playing Angry Birds Star Wars???
I am rather concerned about the GPU heating up like that when playing an Angry Birds game. It's not like I'm playing Metro or Crysis. Is it the game itself or is it an MSI Afterburner OSD bug? I don't forsee any problems with my GPU since it never overheats while playing hardware-demanding games for two hours at a time.

You might want to try other GPU temperature monitors and see what they report, some programs reports wrong information at times.

Does the heat affect the game preformance (angry bird)?

Radeon HD 6770. Game runs smoothly at max fps. It's weird, though.

Reminds me of when i had a problem with my laptop when running lol. Instead of using the nvidia card my computer insisted on running the game on the integrated card:S

gpu's normally run hot when under load, use gpuz and watch the gpu/memory controller loads while playing
if they are nearly maxed, 80c sounds about right
also verify that its fan is at 75+% during those times

The GPU temps usually never go over 60° while playing casual games. I guess it could be the game itself.

Just played a mystery search game and the temp stayed at 56°. So it must be Angry Birds, then.

angry birds hardly requires any effort from a dedicated gpu, so something is definately going on

Nitronic Rush @ 70°. GPU seems OK.

flash games will use hardware acceleration

OK, I capped the fps to 60 and the temps are now staying below 60°. Some fps drops, though, but the 1000+ fps must have really pushed the GPU to unnecessary levels. I think Rovio needs to update their games to optimize coding in an effort to prevent overrunning GPUs.

1000 fps? haha no wonder.. i wonder why it does that though, i doubt flashgames need more than 30 fps anyway

Thats normal when vsync/capping isnt enabled. When its off its basically like giving your system permission to go all out, which in turn raises temps.

Yeah lol. Well, at least I fixed the problem. I'll have to go to Afterburner and apply the fps cap to all similar games.

Tweaked the settings further and adjusted fps cap to 120. No more choppy animations when birds are flying and the temps are 60°.
