Bitfenix Prodigy owners..
hi, I've fallen in love with this mini-ITX case :) Ive built a modest system in one, but now want to build my "dream PC" in one.

My main concern is finding a power supply that can handle the setup (listed below), but that can also fit into the case! (I've heard of an extension kit to allow longer PSU's but I haven't found one for sale)...

any advice apprecated!

Proposed built in a Bit Fenix Prodigy..

CPU = Intel Core-i7 3770K
Mobo = Gigabyte GA-Z77N
GPU = GTX 690 (hey its a dream PC, and with only one pci slot, it has to be the 690 :)
RAM = Corsair platinum 16gig
Cooling = H100 (I'll have to remove the DVD drive bay, but thats fine)
SSD dfive to boot, at least 1 mechanical drive for storage..

so again - the dilema is finding a PSU that can power all that, and yet still fit in the case...

Thanks for any help

I would like to know why you would want to build a 'gaming PC' into a mini-ITX Case? Assuming you can get all the stuff to fit in one, you do know that it will be so cramped in there that you have a high risk of everything overheating and getting damaged? Why not just buy a decent mid tower case and be done with it? I don't know why you would spend thousands on components only to house them in a cramped ITX case.

If I bought all those components, then I would find the coolest looking, highest air flow, FULL tower ATX case I could find and never worry about heat. Putting all that high end stuff in a mini-ITX case seems foolish and counter-productive to me.

he'll be fine.. i have seen some psu's that were reasonably small and ideal for a mini itx builds..

this should be pretty good

Yeah but my point had nothing to do with PSU. My point is why would you want to put a $1000 CPU, a $1000 GPU, +$100 CPU Cooler, etc. in a crappy mITX case? Come on with components like these you want good ventilation and cooling. These parts will all be cramped together and get really hot, and potentially damage them. If you are spending that much on components, why don't you spend and equal amount on a good case with decent airflow? Sorry but to me what the OP wants to do just seems foolish. But to each his own. But why? To save space? Come on, I think huge gaming rigs that light up and look cool are way better then cramping all these awesome components into a mITX case.
Hi..thanks noizzz...will take a look at it :)

zeek - Its mainly because of portability. That case is so handy to pick up and go. but its more than that, i just like the idea of max power in a small package :) I think the h100 will keep the cpu cool enough and the 690 should have adequate cooling itself...worse case scenario is i leave the side off during intensive gaming sessions...
You don't have to worry about heat in a Prodigy either... I'd worry about heat in a full tower because of dead zones. The case has better airflow than most full atx cases due to its smaller design, not having the air from the fan to travel far to push hot air out. There's a spot designated for GPU airflow.
If temperatures are still your concerns, get a EVGA Stinger or Asus P8Z77-I motherboard and you can fit any heat sink on those boards due to the placement of the socket away from the PCI-e slot.

That's a NHD14 in there. Idle temps were 25 on a i7 3770k. Too hot? I don't think so.
Your power supply choices are 160mm long. 650W is as much as you'll need in this case, 690 isn't power hungry.

mITX is awesome, ur probably just jealous he will have cooler stuff in his mini pc than you have in a big honkin beast..
Sorry but that small friggin case is gonna suck for cooling that GPU unless u get a water block for that as well.

Lots of heat and small cases do not make a good match.

And sorry Noizz but i agree with that other dude, such a large amount of hardware in a teenie tiny case is a stupid idea and has absolutely NOTHING to do with being jealous, its called being logical and having common sense.

and can a 690 even fit into that thing? not to mention spacing on the motherboard itself in regards to such a large card

i was gonna post something skeptical about cooling on this case, but after seeing a image, then further watching a review on it.. that case will be fine.. there is a vent on the panel right infront of the gpu for direct outside air intake to the gpu blower and out the case, it can fit a 240mm fan in the front, 2 fans or a dual radiator on the top. and u say ur doing the h100 cooler, thats gonna be perfect... sence u are doing the h100 cooler on the cpu, and u are getting a higher end i7 i would look to something more than a 650 wat psu, dont forgit if u get something that is direct match to the needs the psu will run hoter as it is working near maximum capacity all the time.. think something like 800 wats, allow u some cpu oc room and plenty of overhead to keep the psu running cool. look for a all modular 800w gold rated psu.

the review on that case.

hell the case he is using is one of the bigger mini itx's.. he could have gone with something even smaller and still be golden.. especially since he is going the cpu watercool route anyway.. he wont have any problems cooling that hardware, it might not get as cold as a full tower but who really cares if their gpu runs at 70C or 60C..hell mine doesnt even reach 60 most of the time and most fans are running as slow as possible.. you would have had a point 3/4 years back when gpu were still massive powerhogs that got well into the 70's and 80's in a normal tower.. nowadays its perfectly feasible to build one though.. and the case is made to hold the biggest gpu's as you can remove the middle harddrivebay cage easily.. i would love to do a mITX build sometimes.. its mostly the wiring thats the problem
eh.. i guess its a decent case.. still to small for my taste tho..

yea i agree on that :P i have 8 hardrives in my corsair 800d obisidan hehe..

but yea when i first saw this thread i was typing some ♥♥♥♥ like oh not a chance in hell, lol.. but then by the time i was finished typing it up the review was getting mid way in so was like oh wow... that is actually a really decent mini case lol.
thanks so far folks...interesting discussion.

On the 690 - yes it fits in the case, there are a couple of PC buliding retailers that are producing builds with it. Yes, you do remove the top drive cage.

On the H100 - yes only way to go I reckon. CD/DVD has to be removed but thats no big deal. in fact I haven't put a disk into a pc other than the windows install disk for sometime. Getting very redundant, even a shame theres the front panel for it, breaking up the clean front. I might be able to squeeze a fan monitor display into that instead - although that might look lame :)

On the cooling of the graphics card...some homework seems to indicate that the card can cool itself and be more or less neutral. Happy to be disproven on that one, and I suppose it depends on workload, but as someone mentioned, the grill in the side panel with be in line with the cards intake so should be fine.

Another really cool feature of this case is the ability to mount SSD's on the inside of the right side panel, there is a plastic "grid" (hard to explain it) that they screw into.

I know its been mentioned that 160mm long PSU's should be fine, but I have found discussions of people who are struggling...modular cables are having to be bent at 90 degrees as they come out of the PSU. I think its about the only downside of the case (and you can't have everything, if they made it any bigger it wouldn't be what it is :) .....so I'm still a little unsure of this component. Here in NZ we don't have heaps of choice either.

but yeah, thanks for all the comments. I think its going to be an awesome build!

You find wrong CPU for Gigabyte GA-Z77N. You need i7 3770K.
