If I bought all those components, then I would find the coolest looking, highest air flow, FULL tower ATX case I could find and never worry about heat. Putting all that high end stuff in a mini-ITX case seems foolish and counter-productive to me.

this should be pretty good
Yeah but my point had nothing to do with PSU. My point is why would you want to put a $1000 CPU, a $1000 GPU, +$100 CPU Cooler, etc. in a crappy mITX case? Come on with components like these you want good ventilation and cooling. These parts will all be cramped together and get really hot, and potentially damage them. If you are spending that much on components, why don't you spend and equal amount on a good case with decent airflow? Sorry but to me what the OP wants to do just seems foolish. But to each his own. But why? To save space? Come on, I think huge gaming rigs that light up and look cool are way better then cramping all these awesome components into a mITX case.
zeek - Its mainly because of portability. That case is so handy to pick up and go. but its more than that, i just like the idea of max power in a small package :) I think the h100 will keep the cpu cool enough and the 690 should have adequate cooling itself...worse case scenario is i leave the side off during intensive gaming sessions...

That's a NHD14 in there. Idle temps were 25 on a i7 3770k. Too hot? I don't think so.
Your power supply choices are 160mm long. 650W is as much as you'll need in this case, 690 isn't power hungry.
mITX is awesome, ur probably just jealous he will have cooler stuff in his mini pc than you have in a big honkin beast..
Lots of heat and small cases do not make a good match.
And sorry Noizz but i agree with that other dude, such a large amount of hardware in a teenie tiny case is a stupid idea and has absolutely NOTHING to do with being jealous, its called being logical and having common sense.
and can a 690 even fit into that thing? not to mention spacing on the motherboard itself in regards to such a large card

the review on that case.
hell the case he is using is one of the bigger mini itx's.. he could have gone with something even smaller and still be golden.. especially since he is going the cpu watercool route anyway.. he wont have any problems cooling that hardware, it might not get as cold as a full tower but who really cares if their gpu runs at 70C or 60C..hell mine doesnt even reach 60 most of the time and most fans are running as slow as possible.. you would have had a point 3/4 years back when gpu were still massive powerhogs that got well into the 70's and 80's in a normal tower.. nowadays its perfectly feasible to build one though.. and the case is made to hold the biggest gpu's as you can remove the middle harddrivebay cage easily.. i would love to do a mITX build sometimes.. its mostly the wiring thats the problem
yea i agree on that :P i have 8 hardrives in my corsair 800d obisidan hehe..
but yea when i first saw this thread i was typing some ♥♥♥♥ like oh not a chance in hell, lol.. but then by the time i was finished typing it up the review was getting mid way in so was like oh wow... that is actually a really decent mini case lol.
a good full modular 750w gold psu :)
On the 690 - yes it fits in the case, there are a couple of PC buliding retailers that are producing builds with it. Yes, you do remove the top drive cage.
On the H100 - yes only way to go I reckon. CD/DVD has to be removed but thats no big deal. in fact I haven't put a disk into a pc other than the windows install disk for sometime. Getting very redundant, even a shame theres the front panel for it, breaking up the clean front. I might be able to squeeze a fan monitor display into that instead - although that might look lame :)
On the cooling of the graphics card...some homework seems to indicate that the card can cool itself and be more or less neutral. Happy to be disproven on that one, and I suppose it depends on workload, but as someone mentioned, the grill in the side panel with be in line with the cards intake so should be fine.
Another really cool feature of this case is the ability to mount SSD's on the inside of the right side panel, there is a plastic "grid" (hard to explain it) that they screw into.
I know its been mentioned that 160mm long PSU's should be fine, but I have found discussions of people who are struggling...modular cables are having to be bent at 90 degrees as they come out of the PSU. I think its about the only downside of the case (and you can't have everything, if they made it any bigger it wouldn't be what it is :) .....so I'm still a little unsure of this component. Here in NZ we don't have heaps of choice either.
but yeah, thanks for all the comments. I think its going to be an awesome build!
