Pretty much leaning to nvidia atm, I just need to do more digging on the real power consumption, if I get it wrong the psu will cut out under load.
I googled "gtx 680 problems" - 3,180,000 results.
I googled "amd 7970 problems" - 2,370,000 results.
gtx 680 - £388.47
amd 7970 - 353.83
I think the gtx has the edge on speed but amd has the edge on compatibility.
Still edging towards the gtx atm, but its gonna take a few months to save up anyway.
Does anyone else panic when getting new kit? its like I'm getting married or something, lolz.
"Just got a gtx 680" About 23,100,000 results
"Just got an amd 7970" About 11,900,000 results
So keep that in mind!
I too always panic, I ended up with the 680, but that's because I'm a long time 3dFX fan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3dfx) starting with my first two Voodoo's! :) My panic is always over the other junk though... do you spend that extra money for that better processor that only delivers minimal FPS improvements!? Should you get an SSD!? OMG Why is this mother board $150 more than that one!?! :)
Good luck!

In reality though, both of them are great cards. Nvidia has some extra features such as adaptive vsync and physx, but AMD's cards are by far the best bang for buck. Can't really go wrong with either of them.
Edit: USA guys wont get that, Thatcher killed the UK and Whitehouse killed UK TV with censorship, pure evil and run everything into the ground just means they both kick ass.
The Nvidia: GTX 680 is only DirectX 11, as it clearly states on the box in which it comes.
Here is proof: http://blogs.amd.com/play/2012/12/14/gcn-architecture-full-dx111/
Windows 8 is DirectX 11.1
From what I've been digging up on google the nvidia seems to have better performance in games even though its technically less powerful.
I always use the latest official drivers.
I never use pirated software or games.
I here the 7950 and 7970 have stuttering problems in game though thats what made me go with the GTX680, but in saying that my friend has a 7950 and it seem's ok and like said above it came with 3 games worth £90 at the time on Steam so take that from the £220 price tag and that's £130 for the card which is pretty good really.
Mine too, i have an i7 930 with a 5850 (my old PC) which i still play most my games on with no problems.
