I'd say the Sapphire HD 7950 BOOST 3GB GDDR5. It's a little faster based on benchmarks & you could overclock it for even more speed.

The Sapphire HD 7950 3GB GDDR5 is overkill. Get the sapphire one. ONLY if your powersupply is at least 450 PSU.

Get the 7950.

A friend tells me to get the PowerColor PCS+ Myst. Edition Radeon HD 7870 (Tahiti LE) OC 2GB GDDR5. He sasys it's mainly a 7950 anyways. With better core speed and overall performance. Is this correct?
reveilleun 2013년 5월 29일 오후 4시 39분
So by all means, the 7950 is the better card?

7950 is alot better
banzaigtv 2013년 5월 29일 오후 5시 28분
Definitely get the 7950. HD 7950 Boost = GTX 670, HD 7870 LE = GTX 660 Ti

Then why does my friend insist on me getting the 7870? He largley recomends it, saying it is by far better than the 7950. (he has the 7870 LE)

How is it overkill when it can't even play Crysis 3 and Metro Last Light at max settings, 1080P with a stable 60 frames?

I mean really, overkill? This is such an overused word on these forums and now it's even being used on mid range cards.

That is not overkill. Far from it.

Finally, you do not know what resolution, etc. the person is gaming at. So this whole overkill thing needs to stop. Someone might want a Titan or two because they game on 3 monitors and expect 60 frames per second. To that person those cards are not overkill.

Because he/she doesn't know what they are talking about and you should not take any computer advice from that person. To suggest that a 7870 is faster than a 7950 means they have no clue about computer hardware.

Here is the comparison:

Well we have no idea what OP plays and I forgot to ask him what res is he playing on. The reason why I said "overkill" is because it can run BF3 smoothly and you are wrong on not running Crysis 3. I have seen it run on all max settings with 1920x1080 screen and it can also run Metro Last Light. But however you are right about no able to have a stable 60 FPS but 40-55 FPS is still really playable.

powercolor 7870 myst edition? or did you just benchmark the original 7870?
LoTekRabbit 2013년 5월 30일 오후 3시 33분
Yes the 7950 benchmarks higher than the new Tahiti based 7870. You're right I did benchmark the original 7870 and didn't realize that was a new 7870 but it's still the same story. While the difference is not as big as with the original 7870 the 7950 and of course the 7950 GHz are still the better cards. More SP, higher clocks, more VRAM, etc.

If you want to save some money by all means get the Tahiti based 7870. But again your friend is wrong on this.

If it was me and money wasn't a concern I'd get the 7950 boost.

Yes 40-50 or so frames is playable but what about heavy action scenes? You have to take that into account as well. Not to mention we're getting games that are going to stress our GPU's much more than what Crysis 3 and Metro LL can do. Watch Dogs, Battlefield 4, Rome II are coming out this year.

On heavy action scences will not make a major FPS drop. It will only deduct 2-4 FPS at the most
