a new graphics card. your current card is very old and weak.
was thinking Geforce GTX 650 ti boost, what kind of performance you reckon i'll be able to get out of that?
Id go with a 7850[www.newegg.com]. At stock it has a decent upper hand on the 650 and once you factor in overclockling it becomes a complete wash. The 7850s are some if not the best overclockers so far in history. Nearly all except complete duds easily get 40-60% overclocks on the core with minimal to no voltage change. You also get FC3, bioshock, and tomb raider for free.

7850 vs 650ti: 1[gpuboss.com], 2[www.hwcompare.com]

a gtx650 isnt going to be much better than a gts250, but it will support dx11

imho, save up another £50-75 and get a 660 or 7870
Get the GTX 660. It will stomp all over the GTS 250, shred it, laugh, ridicule, and spit at it. You can also get Metro: Last Light for free with that when purchased from some retailers.

Should I click add to cart?
You can go ahead and do it, but keep in mind that you will be going through a process of removing the Nvidia drivers before installing the AMD drivers.

Download CCleaner
Set to nvidia filter
Instal new drivers

Not really a serious process.

not too difficult

uninstall the old drivers
reboot
ccleaner
shut down
change cards
install amd drivers
reboot
reinstall standalone physx driver

enjoy
Cheers for all your help guys!
A GTX 660ti will be more than enough to run Skyrim maxed with the texture pack. If you can find a boost for cheaper then do it.
7850 best perf for price
GTTX660 or HD7850. OR if you can stretch it a HD7870
Get another Nvidia card and either SLI them, or you can use one (the weaker one) to dedicate to PhysX while the other (the stronger one) is dedicated to graphics rendering.
660ti or 7870 will be better than 2x 250s in sli, and use alot less power

and we dont know if his board supports sli, or if his power supply is aruond 750w
