Can't install xBox 360wireless PC adapteron my computer

I bought an X Box 360 wireless with the pc adapter for gaming and I can't installed it to save my life. First the disk is useless so I go to the microsoft site and get the drivers. I am running windows 7 64bit on an Alienware X51 I am new to the gaming experinece but an old hand at pc tech repairs, and installation. I download and install the drivfers and the install just disapperas after the installation screen finishes and then it is in the device mamager that it is not installed as unknown device. I try installing again and i get the message your device is already installed ti reinstall it you fist must uninstall the previous install. yada yada yada. will I have tried everything I know.. I should say first I tired with the dist from teh found new hardware wizard and direcdted in the installation disk insturctions and got a message that it was being blicked due to compatablitiy issues thats when i wnet to the downlaoded 64 bit dirvers . maybe I jsut do a system restore to before any of it happened and try the 64 bit first??any ideas? thanks Madmaven

It may have to do with the driver signature.

That does seem rather lame though since they are Microsoft drivers with a Microsoft device.

Thanks I'll check it out. I did a system estore and reinstalled the microsoft drivers for 64 bit and they installed with no trouble but the device mamager still shows unknown device and it of course doesnt work. I;ll research your link now. thanks again madmaven

the reciever does not show up on device manager untill a controller is linked, then just the controller will show up
