80GB Data file!?

Hey guys. just got my new rig and noticed the SSD where windows is only has 5GB left! (OCZ 120GBSSD). I went to show hidden files and noticed one data file is 80GB? Not a folder just a single file. Is there anyway I can move it into my other Hard drive where I have 1TB or does it have to stay in the C drive. I've bootcamped Macs and installed Windows in systems before but never seen a single data file take up that much space. Thanks

What is the description of the file?

It's in Local disc C>Users>user>Appdata>local>temp but the type is "DAT" while all the others are "TMP" and the name is "jam_31124988475.dat" and says that it opens with Windows Shell common. Takes up 81.1GB, but i've never seen anything like that before :-S

I've never seen anything like it before. Nothing like that shows up on that directory in my SSD. You could try creating a backup image of your SSD, delete the file, and if any issues arise, restore the drive to the backup image. I cannot guarantee it will work since I never did it before, but try at your own risk. Just make sure you backup the drive.

Cheers guess I'll just create a system restore point then remove it. Weird thing is, when I try to open it it comes up with that "Windows can't open this file" and sugguests trying to find it on the internet. I should note that the "Appdata" folder is actually faded out in the user directory where pictures documents etc are?

see if you can delete it

if you get the file is in use, check your running tasks, and look for anything unusual

Have you tried doing a Disk Cleanup to see if that file shows up and may be cleared that way?

Did you install the OS yourself or was it pre installed?

Run a disk clean up see if that helps with the space.

No I had a store do it as I have been busy. I'll ring them on monday. I compressed the file which gave me 40GB. I'll run disk clean up aswell, the file was hidden but it is frustrating. Should just try and deleat it after I've created a system restore but havn't got the balls haha

A system restore point is not going to do anything with a 80GB file. That isn't what a system restore is about. If you're talking about a drive backup, then that will help.

I meant as in to revert back to that point incase the file I delete turns out to be something I shouldn't have deleted. I don't think deleting it will do any harm-it's just strange that it's such a large file which is the worry. (And it didn't pick it up in disk clean up)

It's in your temp folder, so it's probably some stupid file a website punched into it. Delete it.
Of course, I've never been in a situation like that, so I don't know.

Could try clearing your web browsers history, see if that does it.

if not you could try deleting it but its pretty weird to have a file that large.

Ok so I just deleted it and now have over 80GB in my SSD and everything seems to work fine-touch wood! So yeah cheers guys!
