cooling system tips?

recently i decided i should buy some cooling fans for my pc since the summer heat is coming. I wanted to know what i should buy and what should i do to keep my pc cool. thanks.

What case do you have, what size fans does it use and how many

thats what im not sure about. i have a gateway DX4860 and i tried looking up that information but couldnt find anything.

Brand name PC Cases(Dell/HP/Gateway etc) normally dont have very many cooling options, especially if its an ordinary Dell case. Most you could probably do is a single 120mm fan but that alone may not be very helpful.

well I looked the computer up online and it looks like all it has is 1 exhaust case fan, 1 psu fan, and a stock i5 cpu cooler/fan. from what i see in the pictures you cannot add anymore fans. due too it not being a powerfull gaming computer I don't think it needs much add on cooling from the user. just keep it clean inside by making sure all the dust is removed from the fans and all the vents, and make sure the case is sitting somewhere with good airflow too it. is there a intake fan in the case up front? can't see one in the online pics at Gateway or any sites that reviewed it.

no theres no front fan. what about for my 550 ti. can i add a fan to keep that cool?

Honestley if you just have a standard case , i would personally reccomend getting an aftermarket heatsink, which will defenitley make a difference, but besides that, you might not have enough room

With his case hed have to go for a small form factor cooler, Factory cases dont offer much space.

OP, if you want better cooling you'll have to buy a new case, even something in the $50 range would be better then that standard case.

Yes amazon has great cases the nzxt gaurdian blue led comes with 3 120mm fans standard, with romm for 2-3 more if you feel like getting them

and yes you would have to take everything out and put it in the new case

Yes thats the case , and depending on your experience with hardware you should be able to transfer everything

if you are doing this for the first time, and are not sure , you could go to a computer store and have them transfer it over to your new case, or honestley if youve never had an over heating problem before i would reccommend you save your money and just buy a heatsink, which should keep your cpu running cool.Its really your choice since i wouldnt want you to accidentaley damage your motherboard or something while transfering over. if you do decide to do it yourself , heres a video on putting together your own computer, howerver in your case the motherboard is already assembeled, so youll save a lot of time.

thanks guys. you've been really helpful. thanks for answering all my questions. i've been thinking about upgrading my pcu as well as make room for more upgrades, so i may just buy a new case for $70. thanks again for your help.

You could consider cranking the AC to keep the ambient room temperature cool, but I understand that cooling costs can be expensive. So get a good full-size case, but make sure that the motherboard will fit into it. I was told by someone that OEM motherboards may not fit in some custom cases.
