GTX Titan overkill at 1080p?
Before you all say yes which would be the obvious lol, I would be ugrading to a 1440p screen but not exactly willing (just yet!) to spend £500 on one considering they will come down in price. The reason for 1080p (120hz) is mainly future proofing being able to max out games down the line. (Has to have MSAA on low setting on crysis 4 at 1080p to get 80+ on a single titan) I was considering SLI 4GB Zotac 680's but the heat and SLI I'm not keen on, I prefer the simplicity of a single GPU. Cheers :). I am un sure so definately open to sugguestions but have always been with Nvidia and never really had a problem, despite the price being higher than AMD, so I'm gonna stick with em!

Titan is a waste imo. a 690 performs better in all games. BUT.. if you benchmark in heaven or similar program the titan will pull ahead.
Titan = Tank (slow but powerfull)
690 = Ferrari (Fast and agile)
Marble 23 ABR 2013 a las 4:27 a. m.
Don't forget that the 690 consumes significantly more power and generates a lot of heat.

GTX Titan = GK 110 chip
GTX 780 = GK 114 chip

Not the same.

And yes it is common knowledge that that GTX Titan is a single-GPU card, that is the main appeal of it.

The numbers and inside of the card tell me it is the 780. If so much as a single component is added or taken out, it can be classed as a different chip.

No it is not common knowledge that it is a single gpu card, or what this implies. Absolutely no newbie will "get it" when they first start buying into the gaming PC market. Some are likely to fall for the advertising by Nvidia and other companies, and not think of what they really need (then start b_tching in a forum that the card(s) they bought are not that good afterall. I've been there).
I don't think its fair that those that prefer single gpus should have to pay as much as dual gpu users.

I once asked a question about all things SLI, single and dual gpu and why all versions of SLI exist. I didn't get many answers and it seems no one really knows anything for certain.

That was one of the selling point excuses Nvidia made for selling the gtx 690 at such a higher price than past cards.

This is a pretty good review of the Titan

1) I still don't get the point you're trying to make.
2) How do the numbers and innards tell you that it's a 780? Because for starters, the numbers are different. Also, to my knowledge there is are no photos of the final 780 PCB.
3) Newbies aren't going to invest in cards like these and the ones that do will likely not give a damn and will be happy with the performance.
4) Nvidia can charge whatever they want. If they don't sell, they will drop the price. If AMD release a more competitive solution, they will also drop the price to compete.

1. Scroll up. I posted questions about the generations of cards, what do they look like inside, the prices etc. If I just tell you what I think, you will miss the point.

2. If you did what I said, above, you would understand what I am really saying.

3. Now thats where you are wrong. For one, I was a newbie, two or more years a PC gamer. Secondly, yes I have been greatly disappointed by everything bought from Nvidia. The driver support is bad (the worst I have ever seen). Boot to blank screen, now a BSOD caused by Nvidia driver that happens randomly.
Games will not all run good and stable at 1080p. Whereas people using lower resolutions at max settings don't have this trouble on older cards. I bet if I used the same newer card on a lower resolution screen, it will run better on such games.
Some here may say its just not an optimized game, that its a console port, older games won't run on newer hardware. But not all problem games are old. But this part now is too complex to go into further detail.
Note;
Something you can laugh at here. I knew that the 690 was just another beta product, but I bought it anyway. Because I just had to play Metro 2033 and other games at max settings at 1080p without the struggle or lag. And yet I still haven't got around to playing these games through. Whats worse is I seem to not want to play PC games anymore and am losing interest in gaming altogether. :/

4. Nvidia is as bad as Alienware, as Microsoft, as any over exaggerating company that likes to charge over a label or something they never really invented in the first place.

You could of just implied from the start that your intent was just to bash Nvidia.

For the record, I've been using Nvidia GPU's since GeForce 2. Never had any issues except with a few games that were optimised for AMD hardware (for which I also have a PC with an AMD GPU).

Back up what you claim with source articles, or don't bother.

If that really was the case I wouldn't have posted the questions people could be asking and doing. I don't see trolls or fanboys doing this.

You vs the various people that have had trouble with the 600 series graphic cards. Games, drivers, updates, Windows, etc. Its too complex like I said to go into.

Now this is the part where smart readers would scroll back up this thread and see what I said from start to finish. Then look into what that crazy cube is on about. Then they decide for themselves.

And you posted what article that supports your claims, exactly?

Again, no-one has seen a 780, so you are in no position to make such a claim.

Thanks for wasting 31 minutes of my life, when the Anandtech article clearly showed the inside of the Titan card.

From the start. I say these cards are over priced, more so than past cards ever were. I also said (or at least implied) that the titan may as well be called a gtx 780 (because of how similar it looks to a gtx 680, and how a 680 looks to a 580).

To back this up I suggested to anyone that would read my posts to look up the 600 and 500 series cards, that have all been released and have all been taken apart and the images can be found on the internet.

And if Nvidia should call the next single gpu a 780, I don't care. As far as I know the next one to me is a 880.

By the way. Nvidia does both gaming and non gaming graphics cards. So why is this "gtx titan" aimed at gamers when the "titan" computer is not designed for gaming?

If your playing crysis 3 or metro 2033, it is not that overkill

A highly tuned 660ti with a good I 7 will run that on ultra maxed.

No sir. I have an SLI setup and on dx11 ultra settings with TWO 660's i get 35-50. thats metro 2033. i do not own crysis 3. a single gtx 680 also struggles really hard with metro 2033 100% maxed out.
