Best configuration for gaming PC between 1000-1500
So looking to get a new computer from scratch, my current one is real old and I have been using my Macbook retina for the time being with Windows 64 bit bootcamp (performs alright actually). I keep hearing building is the way to go but when I total components together there is only around £100 difference. Anyway you guys got any good ideas? I'd be playing on 1080p but will be buying a 1440p monitor when I have the money. Cheers :). Would prefer intel over AMD too

start with something like this and tweak as needed

http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/QcIW
cpu: i5 3570k
cooler: corsair h100i
mobo: Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD3H
ram: Patriot Intel Extreme Master, Limited Ed 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 cl9 1.5v
ssd: Samsung 840 Series 250GB
hdd: Seagate Barracuda 2TB
gpu: MSI Radeon HD 7970oc 3GB
case: Cooler Master Storm Scout 2 (Black)
psu: Corsair Enthusiast 750W
odd: Samsung SH-222BB
os: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 (OEM) (64-bit)

Base Total: £1186.32
Shipping: £5.99
Total: £1192.31

Cheers for that mate, would the 7970 be alright at 1440p? Trying to squeeze a gigabyte 690 paired with i5 3570k overclocked. Would it bottleneck? Price comes to just over £1500. Don't really want to go down the route of water coolers, prefer fans but not sure if they would do for overclocked systems
I like the cooler master cases, they seem real good for airflow with the mesh and the large size

the corsair hxx kits are pretty nice, they are sealed units, no maintenence needed at all
just mount it on the top of the case, install it on the cpu, plug in power and its good to go

7970 should run most games at 1440p without any problems

A 7970 has enough video memory for 1440p, but this one should beat it since it has more memory.

I heard that is a nice card, was looking for a 4gb one for the 1440p really so yeah. I definately don't want to SLI/Crossfire due to issues, would rather get the best single GPU. If only the titan was an option :(. Between the 690 and 680 4gb, due to the 690's price tag is it worth it compared to the 680. As in are the performance levels that different?
The 690 is about twice as fast, but the GTX Titan has 6 GB memory. However, a GTX 690 will still beat it performance-wise. But if a $1000 GPU is too much, than the GTX 680 4 GB is the way to go. It has a lot more benefits than an AMD card, including better drivers, PhysX, adaptive v-sync, and anti-aliasing options which leave MSAA in the dust.

That's the thing I can get a rig with decent components with the gigabyte gtx 690 for around £!600. Might just go for that http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FS-247-OE

a 256m gpu has more than enough vram for 3x 1440p monitors
each monitor will take about 30-50m of ram

its textures and models that use vram
2-3g will allow for higher settings
Trust me you wont notice the extra gigabyte on that 680, I would go with the 7970 ge, it generally performs and ocs better then the 680s and I really dont think the titan is worth the price in terms of gaming but 690 might be if you really want to spend that much, or you can wait a bit longer for 7990. However crossfire drivers are not that great but then again sli isnt perfect either.
Yeah I wouldn't crossfire/ SLI. That's why I'd want to go for the most powerful single GPU (would be titan but not worth the cost?). I've always had Nvidia cards though so I'm a bit hesitant about Radeon, apparently the drivers are a bit dodgy? Has anyone checked out that link I posted on Overclockers. If you configure that system with the 690, are all the other components worth it? (Price is about 1600 with windows 7 and bigger HDD). Cheers
