Is the GTX 680 worth it?
Im planning on buying the GTX 680 when I have some extra cash on hand, and I was wondering if it made sense to buy one, or just get a 670 and overclock it to the same level as the 680.
Here's the one im looking at: http://www.ebuyer.com/354136-evga-nvidia-gtx682-sc-2048mb-256-bit-ddr5-2-dual-dvi-hdmi-dp-fan-02g-p4-2682-kr (Ebuyer is like New Egg, for all the people in the USA).

Benchmarks are here

Look through those and then compare prices.

Hmm, it seems like the GTX 680 is only marginaly better than the GTX 670. I will do some more research, but it looks like i'll end up buying the GTX 680, its only about £90 more and provides a lot more frames in some games, according to the benchmarks.

I myself am getting the GTX 670 as it's so close to the 680 but you can save a hundred bucks and overclock it and run the same performance.

I could just buy a GTX 670 and overclock, but I really don't want to go through the hassle of overclocking. I've never overclocked any of my previous graphics cards, so I would need to spend a couple hours on google, and I would probably need to buy a new fan if the temp's get high.

I overclock my 2 GTX 580's and am still running the stock fans. MSI Afterburner is a good and simple overclocking tool and it's free and used by about 90% of overclockers. also it doesn't take much overclocking of the 670 to match performance of the 680, and for just gaming you shouldn't even have to overclock as most of the time overclocking is just for benchmarking, after I get a good benchmark score I put my cards back to stock.

I've got MSI Afterburner, but I only use it for getting info about performance in games.
I could just stick with my dual 7870's, but im thinking about the future, and I want to be able to run the latest games at near max settings.

Look into the 670FTW. Should be ~$100 less than a 680, and perform even closer to a stock 680/sometimes better in contrast than the vanilla 670. The FTW edition has a higher stock clock/boost clock and uses the 680 PCB for superior cooling. I own one and mine boosts up to 1215mhz, and on stock voltage I get my core clock up to 1280mhz, and 7015mhz memory. I rarely, if ever use that overclocked profile that I made on MSI AB though because I don't feel like I need it at all. Nvidia really stepped on their own toes releasing a GPU performing so close to the next tier up for much less money,

The GTX 670 DirectCU II TOP should be a better bargain. The GTX 680 is a bit overpriced compared to it.

Ok, after a long think, I have come to the decision that the GTX 670 FTW edition is the card for me. It is much cheaper, and in some cases performs even better than the stock GTX 680. Thanks for all the assistance :)

Good choice.

I have one. It rocks and there is not a game that you cant max out. Period.
I dont know about the 670 TBH, but I have never owned this much graphical firepower. Its also quite quiet.
