3d Games run at low fps (SOLVED)
I own a gaming pc,
Windows 10 64 bit,
64 gb of ram ddr4 (new),
A320-A PRO MAX motherboard,
Geforce 4060 graphics card (new),
AMD ryzen 3 3200G 3600 Mhz 4 Cores.

A couple of weeks ago my PC started running 3D games like The Witcher 3 and borderlands 3 at less than 20fps. 2d games like Hollow knight and Binding of Isaac run fine up to my monitors 144 refresh rate. I thought it was a problem with my graphics card so i upgraded from a 1650 to a 4060. This did not fix the issue. My CPU has been running on idle from 75 - 95 degrees which is not ideal. I have reapplied thermal paste and it has not fixed the issue. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

make sure the displays are plugged into the gpu not the mobo

and grab the correct mobo chipset/audio/lan etc.. drivers from the mfg site
https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/A320M-A-PRO-MAX/support#driver

Yeah, I only have one monitor, definitely plugged into the gpu :(
Some games will attempt to load up using your onboard Radeon GPU.
Go to Windows Graphics Settings (or WINKEY > type Graphics)
and click Browse, navigate to game folder for troubled game, add all game EXEs to this list; change Options for each to High Performance NVIDIA GPU.

thats often a problem for laptops not desktops

post a cpuz validation link
http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html
cpuz -> validate button -> submit button
it will open a browser, copy the url (address) and paste it here

Tried this just now, strangely enough it helps with fps but only when i dont move the camera (the witcher 3). I saw a maximum of 40 fps but it quickly dropped into the 20s when i moved the camera around.

what cpu cooler?

the board have a very weak vrm design, 3+1+1
can only deliver a max of 60w to the cpu cores

a stock cooler would be best on it, to keep the mobos mosfets cool since they have no heatsinks

Make sure you are using 4060, but built in vega.

Honestly I am still pretty new to PC building, this was pre built other than my upgrades so I might need to find out my cooler type tomorrow, I've gotta sleep for work. Thank you for the help!
At a guess this is your problem :

"My CPU has been running on idle from 75 - 95 degrees which is not ideal"

your cpu is over heating and thermal throttling

I would suggest getting someone you know and trust to either try applying new thermal paste or better still a better heat sink, that should cure your issue

If you use windows 10/11 install a bit of software called HWiFO to monitor your system, it will give you a whole host of details about your system.

(it's what the pro's use)

oh before you do any of the above^

make sure the heat sink fan has not some how been disconnected from the motherboard, may of happened when you installed the new graphics card

Sounds like CPU thermal throttling hard and is the reason for all the performance drops.

Witcher3 switch to DX11 mode. It runs like crap in DX12 anyways. Why they had to go and "fix" a perfectly working game. It's practically broken in DX12 mode.

Is this a computer that was previously working fine, or was it always problematic?

I know you said a couple of weeks ago your computer started acting up, but for all I know you could've only had the computer for about that long.

That could be a case but not when the system is idle it's not.

Their cpu will be thermal throttling when gaming if it's already 75-90 at idle.

either that or they an mining malware problem

I have had this PC for years, I was playing the witcher one night at around 50 fps and the next day it started playing up, then i got a new graphics card thinking that was the problem.

Can you check that again and confirm?
If your CPU is going to 75C on idle, then this is the first problem you should resolve.
