You ever come back to a near dead hot laptop? You can thank Modern Standby for that. Or wonder why your fans come on intermittently when the lid is closed? You guessed it Modern Standby.

The best part is you’re completely stuck with it. The classic S3 sleep state that doesn’t have these issues is pretty much dead. Most newer laptops no longer have the functionality to use it.

You just have to wonder how unloved the Modern Standby developers were to unleash this absolute garbage that nobody asked for into the world.

I need to just seriously dedicate myself to learning Linux to the same level I understand Windows.

you wanna know something funny in my 20 years of use sleepmode never worked properly in windows it always wakes up with broken processes now the funny thing linux went to sleepmode when i was downstairs i went ow f me forgot to check power settings it was fine no issues after it got out of sleep that's the first time it actually worked

It probably uses "sleep mode" to upload microphone and camera data to microsoft lol

in power options set close lid to turn off

Ask your laptop manufacturer if they have an alternate BIOS that disables it, as it could be hardcoded into the laptop's firmware to behave that way. That's one disadvantage of UEFI and how "integrated" Microsoft is with vendors.
