it probably just has some gunk from pop or something sticking in it
take it apart and throw all the plastics in a tub and wash them with dish soap, rinse an let dry for a few hours, and re-assemble

the logitech is way better than madcatz or most cheap controllers
it will not take long to fix its problem
That's fair enough, I have any easy solution for that.. I deleted my answer
though fair to say i usually keep mine clean inside and out as much as needed, but if issues happen i would open and try fixing before i buy something new right away.
thats not to say you didnt try already and just didnt mention it.
I have also had good luck with Power A controllers.

8bitdo generally makes the best PC controllers now. SCUF are pretty good, too. But pretty expensive, and the iCue software is ♥♥♥♥.
And I would also attempt to clean your current controller.
I do have a SteelSeries Stratus Duo, which is responsive, solid and perfect in the hands, but it's xinput only and doesn't have any configuration software, so you have to use Steam's controller settings to adjust anything.
Rubbing alcohol and a Q-Tip, if anyone's curious.
From there it went downhill as the company made loads of garbage up through the 6th generation of consoles. The brand is synonymous with garbage.
They cut corners on quality production to get the prices down so that unsavvy buyers would buy it as a second player controller
The college humor video The Worst Controller Ever Made has a fake controller brand called JawDogz, which is a thinly veiled parody of the MadCatz brand name.
Rerez has a good overview of this period of time.
However his video is incomplete because it doesn't really cover what happened after the sixth generation.
The company bought out Saitek for one thing, and I don't think Saitek products were ever considered particularly bad. Maybe overpriced for the quality you do get, but meh.
Second, there's a chapter to the company's story where they were starting to turn over a new leaf when they hired Mark "Markman" Julio and started collaborating with Capcom.
They lead the way for the popularization of Sanwa Denshi based arcade joysticks in the U.S.A. with their Tournament Edition products and also made some Saturn inspired fightpads for the xbox 360. Some people like those, but I prefer Hori fightpads by far.
There were also smaller, lower quality "standard edition" joysticks which weren't anything too special.
The Round 1 Tournament Edition joysticks did somehow manage to screw things up. The playstation 3 controllers are unlicensed (so no backwards compatibility) and require a via chipset U.S.B. controller to work on P.C. However the xinput compliant 360 ones are fine.
After those unlicensed Round 1 joysticks, things were smooth sailing for a while. This Chun Li joystick[gaming-age.com] would astonish anybody who associates Madcatz with crappy gamecube controllers.
Company was turning over a new leaf with good product, but they expanded too quickly and were unable to sustain themselves so they went bankrupt. I hear that some new company acquired the rights to the brand name, but it's not the same company so I can't talk about anything new from them.
If it's their original Sega Genesis controller, Rerez claims that's actually pretty decent, but there's no real reason to use it over a real Sega controller, or even the licensed Retrobit controllers that they make specifically for the Sega Genesis these days.
If it is a madcatz Gamecube controller, then it's thrift store garbage so stay away from it. Run for the hills if you must!
If it's a Playstation 3 or Xbox 360 controller with a Street Fighter character on it, it's probably at least alright. Maybe even good.
After that I'm not sure.
Regardless, Madcatz is an example of why you judge from product to product rather than taking brand name at face value.
